The defender was frightened by Erling Haaland. He backs off and that gives the space for Haaland. The goalkeeper then engages too early and it allows Haaland to score.

"We need to be focused on ourselves, that’s what we are doing and there are four more finals to the end so let's do it."

Nottingham Forest played well but were let down by poor finishing in front of goal. Manchester City were below par with Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez below their usual high standards. But grinding out results is what makes champions. Forest on this form look too good to go down but Luton may think otherwise.

  8. City get the job done without being at their bestpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 28 April

FT: Nottingham Forest 0-2 Man City

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter at the City Ground

It is an ominous victory for Manchester City. Never at their best but they got the job done to move a point behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

Another message has been sent to Arsenal in the title race and the pressure is back on the Gunners when they host Bournemouth in the early kick off next Saturday.

Yet if City win their four remaining games against Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham there is nothing Arsenal can do to stop them claiming a historic fourth straight Premier League crown.

City haven't been at their best today, but it's all too comfortable. There was no panic in the play. It's almost like they've been in this scenario multiple times before. When they need to win, they win!

    Paul

Arsenal could well end up on 89 points and not win the league. Whilst City not at their best today, their ability to consistently rack up 90+ points year after year is so impressive!

Manchester City dominated possession as expected. Nottingham Forest had their moments and for an hour were in the game.

City were not at their best, were maybe a little bit leggy having played Brighton the other day. But if Forest put in this kind of performance again, I think they will be safe.
