Daniil Kvyat, on fresher soft tyres, has too much for Marcus Ericsson and passes the Sauber to take P10. Max Verstappen is looking racey. He has his eye on Felipe Massa, who is on the harder medium tyres, and picks off the Williams with a neat move at Turn One.

  4. Vettel 'didn't expect any problems'published at 16:37 British Summer Time 3 April 2016

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel tells Radio 5 live's Tom Clarkson that the engine problem that ended his race on the parade lap was "very sudden".

He added: "We didn't expect to have any problems. Now let's push on Kimi's car and see after the race what happened.

"I think we have reason to be confident but it caught us by surprise today."

"The Red Bulls are not really putting in the kind of pace we were hoping for. They look like fodder for Lewis Hamilton."

"Romain Grosjean 1.1 seconds faster than Daniel Ricciardo on that last lap so he's going to be close behind him soon."

Say what you like about qualifying but somehow we have ended up with a couple of belting races to start the season with.

Just trying to catch my breath back and check out the lay of the land. Catching my eye is Stoffel Vandoorne, who is currently eighth, while Romain Grosjean is fifth in the Haas. Can he go one better than his superb sixth in Australia? What a start to the season it would be for the team if he does!

"They are going to have to do something different with Hamilton and they are - he has got the medium tyres on. He's going to go much deeper than Nico Rosberg on this stint - perhaps 15 laps deeper."

Romain Grosjean, currently sixth, is the only driver inside the top 10 with super softs on.

Ahead of Grosjean is Felipe Massa, just two tenths of a second down the road.

Meanwhile, Nico Rosberg is coasting out in front, there's 11 seconds between him and Kimi Raikkonen, with Lewis Hamilton a further nine seconds back in third.

"Bahrain is good for the undercut and I'm pretty sure Kimi Raikkonen was pretty disgusted when he came out of the pits to see the Red Bull and the Williams overtake him."

Kimi Raikkonen, meanwhile, is back out into second after some gerat racing from the flying Finn. He re-emerged on the circuit behind Felipe Massa and Daniel Ricciardo, who were focused on a tussle between themselves and Raikkonen crept in on the act, taking Massa at Turn 1 and then swiftly despatching of Ricciardo.

Raikkonen has been on the podium seven times in Bahrain, he sure knows how to tackle this circuit!

Nico Rosberg pits, swaps the super softs for softs and is back out in the lead. Lewis Hamilton follows his team-mate in making his first stop of the race, but he's gone for mediums.

Stoffel Vandoorne is a man on a mission. Now Sergio Perez is looming large in his sights and he glides past the Force India at Turn 11.

Meanwhile, the first lot of stops are being made, Kimi Raikkonen pitting from second and taking on softs. Lewis Hamilton is up into second for now.

Another one out. Esteban Gutierrez's Haas is being put up on the trolleys and his race is over.

Meanwhile, Stoffel Vandoorne is where McLaren's sole focus is now. Jenson Button, back in the garage, watches on as the Belgian rookie is on a move, side-by-side with Nico Hulkenberg before passing him to take 14th.
