Kim is the girl kneeling there and she has the glamorous job of painting flo-vis, and they are using a white flo-vis. It is down by the bargeboard and they have some new development tech there. She will daub that paint on the relevant areas and see where the paint goes and ends up when the car is out on the track. All of that will be analysed by the aerodynamicist.

There is a lady with an apron on kneeling by Nico Rosberg's car in the Mercedes garage with what looks like a glass of milk and a paint brush sat in it. I'm sure it is a lot more technical than that, though.

Those soft tyres have helped propel Nico Hulkenberg up to P3, but even with the quicker tyres on he's 0.8s off the Mercedes.

Early indications are that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will be in a different league this weekend.

Fernando Alonso is going well. Third at the moment with 1:33.527, 1.8s off the Mercedes.

Sebastian Vettel is fourth. He's got softs on, with Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez and Marcus Ericsson the only other drivers with the yellow walled tyres bolted on.

He deserves to have a complete car width around the outside. That is the drivers' rules. Therefore Rosberg had to give Hamilton one complete car width around the outside. He shouldn't have made the mistake at the previous corner.

Absolutely neck and neck between the two Mercedes at the moment. They are two of a handful of drivers out on the track and are trading places at the top of the timesheet. At the moment, Lewis Hamilton is quickest after a 1:31.654 on the medium tyre, but Nico Rosberg's best effort, also on mediums, is just 0.033s slower.

I spoke to Jenson yesterday and asked whether it was like a weight on his back not having a podium here and he said yes of course. He feels sad about that.

Jenson Button has won a world title, but victory in his home race has eluded him. He hasn't even climbed the podium in seven attempts. Despite his impressive sixth place at the Austrian GP, it will take something special to finish in the top three this weekend.

He's currently seventh on the timesheet.

Jolyon Palmer will want a good showing here this weekend, and not just because it is his home grand prix. I think he'd admit himself that he hasn't performed quite to expectations so far this season and he's currently behind Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon on the timing screen. Palmer is P18 with Ocon P17.

As ever, some belting fan art in the stands at Silverstone.

It may be dull, it may be cold but that hasn't stopped the fans packing out the stands. As ever, great attendance at the circuit.

Nico Rosberg pops back into P1 with 1:32.645 while debutant Charles Leclerc currently has a little moment, running wide, but manages to put in a decent lap as a 1:37.214 puts him P15, between the two Renaults.
