Sebastian Vettel improves at the top of the order, doing a 1:13.015 and the Canadian announcer at the track informs the spectators that he is closing in on Kimi Raikkonen's time from yesterday - a 1:12.935.

Vettel, though, is not happy as he whinges about cars in front and behind him.

Fifteen minutes in and no spins yet although Sergio Perez has a bit of a hairy moment. He is all out of shape through the final chicane, hitting the kerb and running veryyy close the barrier.

Sebastian Vettel lowers the benchmark with a 1:14.533, seven tenths of a second quicker than Daniel Ricciardo. The only other driver to set a time so far is Jolyon Palmer, who has done a 1:17.317 on super-softs.

Can Kimi be world champion again?

Tyrone Hook: Kimi does had the ability to be world champion, although he may have found his groove too late on this season, if he performed how he is now at the start, he'd be up there.

It's been a quiet start to the session with only a handful of drivers popping onto the circuit.

Both Ferraris have been out for an installation lap and Daniel Ricciardo is out now. In fact, he puts in the first time of the session with a 1:16.784 on ultra-softs.

How close it is between Mercedes and Ferrari this weekend? Well, on headline lap times, the four drivers were separated by 0.375secs on Friday. That's close enough. But it might not be an accurate picture. The race-simulation times from later in the second session suggest it is even tighter than that. On the long runs, Lewis Hamilton was fastest, with an average of 1:16.367 on the ultra-soft tyre. Valtteri Bottas was 0.02secs slower than him, and Kimi Raikkonen 0.01secs further back. Sebastian Vettel? Well, he ran the super-soft. But he was just 0.1secs behind Hamilton. Now that’s close.

I've just seen Max Verstappen on TV, holding court in the Red Bull hospitality area, chatting away to David Coulthard. Doesn't look like he is heading out anytime soon. The Red Bulls struggled on Friday, with Verstappen bringing out the red flag late in second practice after coming to a stop while Daniel Ricciardo spent most of the session in the garage because of a engine issue.

I hope we see a mirror of what we saw on Friday where more cars spun than I have seen in a grand prix weekend. There is something that is making these cars spin. Turn 6 was a particular bogey corner for pretty much everybody.

The two Ferraris are waiting patiently at the end of the pitlane for the light to turn green, which it duly does and out they go.
