Lewis Hamilton produces the quickest time of the weekend so far with a 1:12.496 to go top of the pile.
Esteban Ocon sets the early pace with a 1:13.320.
Ultra-softs are on all the cars out on the track at the moment. Only Fernando Alonso is staying in the pits for the first few minutes in Q2.
The second part of qualifying is under way. Fifteen minutes for 15 drivers to fight for a place in the top 10.

It is a game of cat and mouse between Ferrari and Mercedes. Neither wants to show their hand until Q3.

He hit the grass. The right rear hit the grass and he has backed it big time. He was way too greedy, trying to get more race track than was available.
Big mistake by Pascal Wehrlein! He's trying to find too much heading into Turn 1 and he hits the grass, sending him flying into the barrier. Rookie error and he's out of qualifying.
Lance Stroll will become the first Canadian to compete in his home grand prix since 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve in 2006.
At the moment he is in danger of falling at the first hurdle in qualifying. He's 17th.

To be fast with these 2017 compounds it is about getting the fronts and rears to come in at the same time. The rears heat up much faster than the fronts. I wonder if that is why Mercedes are out on the ultra-soft tyres as they have struggled to get tyres at peak temperature?
And now Stoffel Vandoorne drops into the elimination zone as Romain Grosjean overcomes his grip woes to vault up to 11th.
In danger with five minutes to go are:
16) Vandoorne 17) Palmer 18) Ericsson 19) Magnussen 20) Wehrlein
He's beaten them now Jeremiah!
Lewis Hamilton puts in a 1:12.692 to edge ahead of Valtteri Bottas.
Meanwhile, Stoffel Vandoorne scrapes the wall at the exit of Turn 7. He might have to pop back to the pits to asses the damage. The McLaren is on the bubble at the moment, in 15th.

It looked a controlled lap from Hamilton. He didn't abuse the tyres or the car. But it will be disappointing I suspect, especially looking at the faces in the pit.
