Scott Wiseman: On the Sauber driver situation, I would definitely get rid of Marcus Ericsson, he just isn't good enough, he has been beaten by his team-mate too many times!

Well, that's happening again today, with Ericsson down in 18th and Wehrlein in 15th.

It is a chance for 19-year-old Brit George Russell to show what he can do today as he is in the Force India of Esteban Ocon.

He loses the back end of his car at exactly the same corner where Antonio Giovinazzi had some problems moments earlier.

He asks his team what happened.

"Large tailwind," is the response as conditions are getting tricky out in Abu Dhabi. A very impressive session for Russell though as he is 12th quickest so far.

  5. Giovinazzi spinspublished at 10:02 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

We haven't seen many spins today, but it might be catching. Seconds after Nico Hulkenberg sees the track from a different view, Antonio Giovinazzi, coming into turn 17, spins around. He is in the Haas, as Kevin Magnussen is sitting this session one out. Giovinazzi is 14th quickest.

  6. Hulkenberg spinspublished at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

Nico Hulkenberg loses it into a corner and spins. Luckily for him no harm is done to either man or machine. He is 13th quickest, two places in front of his Renault team-mate Carlos Sainz.

Eric Timperton: Max Verstappen final grade of - A, this man overcome reliability issues and a string of bad luck in first half of season to having two race wins. Champion in the making. The big boys will be watching over their shoulders.

So, what about some of the others out there? Toro Rosso are aiming to keep hold of sixth in the constructors championship and Pierre Gasly is 15th quickest, with Brendon Hartley the slowest, and he also has a grid penalty of at least 10 places to deal with.

Hartley has also just gone wide on turn three.

Chris Marsh: Ocon: B+. Has given a new meaning to consistency and would do well in any top establishment. Has lashed out at others once or twice and needed to be separated from others.

Verstappen: A-. Has achieved high grades despite lesser equipment. Has on occasion shown his age and a lack of maturity. I suggest he buddies up with a more mature role model, perhaps Kimi. Oh wait...

Christóforos: If Kubica was the driver he was before, Renault would have taken him. Will be nice to see him back but fear a comeback won't be a success.

  13. 'I think Williams will sign Kubica'published at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Yas Marina

Unless he embarrasses himself in the car I think Williams will sign him. They want to sign him for a number of reasons. One is performance, second it is a PR boost and it is a great story that will keep Williams in the headlines throughout next year.

He did the Hungary test reasonably well and if he is competent next week he will get the drive.

It is a fantastic story and it will be great for Kubica to have another bash. It is great for Formula 1 and it is just a fantastic story all around.

  14. Will Kubica return to F1?published at 09:41 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

We are having a good chat on BBC Radio 5 live about whether Robert Kubica will return to Formula 1.

He will test for Williams in Abu Dhabi after this weekend's season-closing grand prix.

The test is effectively the final step in an evaluation process to see if the Pole can return to Formula 1 in 2018 after seven years away. Williams will also assess Renault reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin.

The Russian has emerged as a candidate along with Daniil Kvyat, Pascal Wehrlein and Paul Di Resta, although Kubica remains their first choice.

The team are keen to sign a proven talent alongside Stroll, who has generally struggled to match veteran Felipe Massa in his debut season this year, other than a couple of impressive drives in the Azerbaijan and Italian Grands Prix.

Sam Fathers: Alonso - A* driven my mum's old mini as if it’s a super car. Plus remembered it’s a sport and entertainment. Vettel - C choked when it came to the crunch. Only works well when all going his way.

Chris Marsh: Lewis: A. Has done everything that has been asked of him this year. He may have been fortunate with the situations of others but has not put a foot wrong. His selflessness to his teammate is a credit to him.

  17. Raikkonen goes even fasterpublished at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

Kimi Raikkonen is the first man under one minute 40 seconds and he is now more than a second quicker than everyone else with an effort of 1:39.841.

His team-mate Sebastian Vettel is down in seventh. Daniel Ricciardo is still second, although he just took the scenic route after overshooting a corner - turn 20 in fact.

  19. Raikkonen goes quickestpublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, who will surely be disappointed with his season so far, with no victories and only two second-placed finishes in 2017, has at least just gone fastest today with a lap of 1:40.638.

That was set on the ultra-softs, and we've only seen Lewis Hamilton on the softs so far.

Daniel Ricciardo is the second quickest, with Hamilton now third fastest.

  20. How they standpublished at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

Brendon Hartley is one of those six drivers on zero points, with a 13th place and two retirements since being elevated into the Toro Rosso team.

With at least a 10-place grid penalty, this could well be another weekend out of the points.
