  1. A vital weekend for Toro Rosso, Renault and Haaspublished at 08:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

Most of the places in this year’s world championship are settled, but there is something meaningful to settle this weekend, and that is sixth place in the constructors’ championship.

Toro Rosso currently hold it, but are only four points ahead of Renault, who are two points in front of Haas. If that sounds like a battle of little consequence, consider that there is about $13m in prize money between sixth and eighth places - about 10% of Haas’ total budget.

“It’s exciting,” said Haas driver Kevin Magnussen (pictured). “We are very close with Renault and Toro Rosso and we really want to beat them. We know it’s not going to be easy. We need to go for it and put everything on the table.”

Haas have had an up-and-down season and Magnussen said the reason for it is that at the hotter races, when they have to open up the cooling on the car, it messes up their aerodynamics and they don’t have the budget to build as many separate bodywork packages as the bigger teams. This weekend? “We are trying to run the most efficient but it is like that,” Magnussen said, indicating the team trying to keep their heads above water.

  2. 'We both have this battle'published at 08:43 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Yas Marina

There appears to be almost nothing at stake at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but don’t think for a minute that it doesn’t matter. Sebastian Vettel appears to be in a better mood this weekend than he has been for some races, and it is hard to escape the conclusion that has to do with his victory in Brazil last time out.

And Lewis Hamilton, who crashed in qualifying at Interlagos, might have tied up the title two races ago, but he has left no-one in any doubt how important a win is at this final race of the season.

Sitting next to Vettel in the pre-race news conference, he said: “We both have this battle wanting to get ahead of each other, I am extremely driven to finish the season as strongly as in the second half of the season. Last race Sebastian won, and I don’t particularly want to give you this one.”

  7. The season finalepublished at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2017

It will not be the dramatic finale to the season we were hoping for as some Lewis Hamilton magic saw him wrap up the title with two races to go.

But there is still lots to talk about, lots of rivalry, lots to look forward to and a great weekend of racing ahead of us.
