Williams will make a final decision on their 2017 driver line-up after next week’s tyre test here in Abu Dhabi, once they have final reassurance, or otherwise, that Robert Kubica is physically capable of a comeback.

Lewis Hamilton, for one, is hoping his former karting rival can make it back on to the grid. “I have not followed it,” the world champion said. “I don’t really know a lot about it. I have not seen him since he left F1.

"But he is one of the most talented of the era I have come from so to see him come back, I hope he does, because, even though he is not in F1, he is easily in the top five of the best drivers here.”

What was Grosjean's excuse? He went for the classic 'I didn't see you' approach. Textbook.

  5. 'Sweet'published at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2017

Max Verstappen's Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was not too impressed with Romain Grosjean yesterday, after the Frenchman got in his way on the track.

The normally chilled out Australian then went on to Twitter to say that things between Grosjean and himself were "sweet".

  6. Speaking of Verstappen...published at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2017

    So, what's going on here?

Superstar DJ Martin Garrix was in the Red Bull garage last night and played what looks like a cracking 'Guess Who?' game with Max Verstappen.

No idea if Verstappen guessed the name of 'Houdini', but the Dutchman will be hoping to conjure up some magic of his own later today.

  8. A competitive final race of the season?published at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2017

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Yas Marina

So far, the auguries are good for a competitive final race of the season. Lewis Hamilton was, perhaps predictably, fastest over one lap on Friday, with Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff saying he was “very good”.

But the gaps back to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo were small, and Wolff said that on race pace it was “very close”. Both Hamilton and Vettel are keen to end the season on a high so there is considerable potential for an entertaining weekend.

Let's start off with a quick recap of what happened yesterday. Sebastian Vettel took the honours in the first session.

He's not listed on the below times, but one of the stars of the session was 19-year-old Brit George Russell, who came 11th when stepping in for Esteban Ocon in the Force India.

The top three in the second session were only separated by three tenths of a second so it is all set up nicely for a tight day of action with the third practice session and then qualifying.
