Race winner Valtteri Bottas said: "It is a really important win for me after having a pretty difficult start to the second half of the year. This weekend, the whole win, I couldn't be happier to end a season like this.

"Congratulations to Lewis on the title and congratulations to Sebastian for the second place. Hopefully better next year. I was really managing the pace and the race. It was a nice feeling. The last five laps I started to go bit quicker and I am really pleased."

"We Finns don't show much emotion but it doesn't mean we don't have any. I am so happy. There has been so much support. I can't show it too much but I feel good."

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

It is great to see Ferrari back (this season). They have made massive strides. They have been genuinely competitive on occasion.

The best team has won the constructors' championship (Mercedes). I am not convinced it is the best car.

It wasn't a great show this afternoon. It is a harsh reminder that Formula 1 needs to do something about the lack of overtaking.

  11. Hulkenberg takes Renault to sixthpublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

Nico Hulkenberg's sixth place is a vitally important one for Renault, as that means the French team move above Toro Rosso and take the financial rewards of coming sixth in the Constructors' Championship.

Both Hass drivers come out of the points, so Toro Rosso end the season seventh.

He may well have won the race, but Valtteri Bottas has not done enough to finish second overall in the drivers' championship.

Sebastian Vettel comes third and he is second overall, obviously behind the leader and our 2017 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

I still feel Mercedes could have done more strategically if they really wanted Hamilton to win. It is a good result for them. It is nice to give Bottas a boost going into the winter months.

Nicci Kay: How about a new points system to spice up the interest in the midfield battles which is where most racing happens? 25, 21, 18, 16, 14, 12, 11, 10, 9 etc gives points to top 17. and stops so many drivers being on 0 points
