Lewis Hamilton took his first pole position since the opening race of the season as he beat team-mate Valtteri Bottas at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Mercedes drivers locked out the front row, Hamilton just 0.04 seconds ahead, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel in third from team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo secured the third row.
Fernando Alonso put a McLaren in the top 10 for the first time this season, eighth behind Kevin Magnussen of Haas.

It promises to be close tomorrow, but how do you think the top three will look?

Brendon Hartley, who did not take part in qualifying after crashing in final practice: "I feel a bit sore in my neck and head a little, but I'll be fine tomorrow.""Most of the bits of the car are replaceable, so they should have no problems getting it fixed in time. I'm disappointed I didn't get a shot at qualifying because the car felt good this morning."
Ahmed: Lewis Hamilton you make me proud, lets win #SpanishGP, external tomorrow
Michael: Bottas continuing a decent start to the season. Not far away at all. He’s been very good all weekend. Will be interesting to see how punchy he is into turn one tomorrow #BBCF1, externalPatrick: 9/10ths slower than @redbullracing, external on an aero circuit with same engine. Maybe their claims of top 3 chassis were fanciful. Disappointing as an Alonso fan.
Michael: Have to say that’s a cracking result for Mercedes. Red Bull won’t be to concerned because I think their race pace can bring them into play. Ferrari the biggest losers of the top 3 teams. #BBCF1, external
Daniel Ricciardo, who will start sixth on grid tomorrow: "I didn't really know what to expect, you never really know until qualifying. Friday paints one picture, but you don't know what's going to happen overall. In Q3 we both put in a good lap, the supersofts weren't comfortable so I went for the softs in Q3 and Mercedes put in some belters at the end.
"I don't know what more I could have done. With the laps Max and I put in I thought we could have been a couple of 10ths from pole... but obviously they were quicker. I'll try tomorrow!"
Max Verstappen, who qualified in fifth, speaking to Sky Sports: "We don't have that power mode, we lost more speed from the friction in the tyres - it's all a bit more painful for us, especially in Q3. It all gets a bit harder and together with my final lap I couldn't continue from turn one. Top 3 wasn't possible today, it was tricky."I don't think many people will choose super-softs tomorrow, it may go faster but it will fall apart. Most people will choose soft and medium."

Kimi Raikkonen wasn't in much mood to talk - not that he often is. He told Sky Sports after qualifying fourth: "This is what we have got, so we'll see what happens tomorrow."

Definitely, but it will rely on the start. Hamilton will be not only happy with pole position but also to have Bottas alongside him. It's not quite like Rosberg-Hamilton now, I don't think we will see a first lap crash like a few years ago.
A second pole position in 2018 for Lewis Hamilton and his third in the last four races here in Spain.

Sebastian Vettel, who starts third on grid: "I was happy with the lap, the first round in Q3 I locked into the first corner, but I was happy with the last lap, I was feeling good. I looked at the tower and I saw my name didn't go up... but we expected Mercedes to be strong so we will see what happens tomorrow.
"I'm looking forward to it and I hope people will enjoy the track and at home."
Valtteri Bottas, who finished second: "It was so close today, like it has been all week. I ruined my first run in Q3 so I really only had one chance. It is a shame it is only four hundreths but it is good for the team. We will race hard tomorrow and try and get the one two we deserved in Baku."
Lewis Hamilton, who starts on pole position: "It's always a great atmosphere in Barcelona, there's loads of Brits and even Spanish fans supporting a Brit which is great. I needed this pole, I haven't had a pole for a while. It's a Mercedes one-two!"
