  1. Engine penalty for Gaslypublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 10 June 2018

Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly has had two points finishes this season - fourth in Bahrain and seventh last time out in Monaco - but he will do well to get anything added to his tally today as an engine change means he starts 19th, just ahead of Grosjean.

As I referred to at the start, running into a groundhog probably won't end well.

The marmots can regularly be seen having races of their own about Notre Dame Island. Unfortunately, one ran into the path of Romain Grosjean's Haas on Friday. RIP, little groundhog.

Not that Grosjean's weekend got any better. An engine failure at the start of qualifying on Saturday means he starts at the back of the grid today.

We've discovered that Hamilton's concerns about the Mercedes engine my have some merit. The Briton suggested that Mercedes may have "a difficult weekend" after postponing an engine upgrade - especially as Red Bull and Ferrari do have upgrades in Canada.

Hamilton was only fourth in qualifying, although team-mate Valtteri Bottas is on the front row, having taken second place.

So what have we taken from the weekend so far?

Well, Max Verstappen has shown that he can channel his undoubted talent in the right way - responding to some very public questioning by finishing top in all three practice sessions, and then producing a superb final lap in qualifying to snatch third place on the grid from Lewis Hamilton.

It's been an eventful weekend in Montreal... and not just for the groundhogs. Although the groundhogs have played their part in the drama, as Romain Grosjean will tell you.
