Not many times we have three ultra-competitive teams. How we have longed for this. Thrilling, amazing.

A worried Toto Wolff. Those worries could well be turning to celebrations in five laps time, though.

This race. Superb, dramatic and you just can't take your eyes off it. Brilliant stuff. Five laps to go.

Mercedes waited so long to pit Hamilton on his second pit-stop. He lost so much time in four laps and had they not have waited to pit to get rid of those blistered tyres he could have possibly been ahead of Verstappen now.

Stoffel Vandoorne has dropped down to 13th, so maybe no points finish for him. Sorry, Kayleigh.

Sixth Hulkenberg, seventh Sainz, eighth Ocon, ninth Magnussen, 10th Perez.

The top three are so, so close. Can Hamilton get ahead of both men and win the race and become the champion for a fifth time in great style.

Who is going to win this race? Raikkonen, Verstappen or Hamilton. Great excitement for the US fans.

    Lap 49/56

Let's not forget about the fight for fourth, with Valtteri Bottas still doing a sterling job of holding off Sebastian Vettel. If Vettel gets up into fourth then Hamilton would have to win the race to win the title today.

  9. What's happened so far:published at 20:34 British Summer Time 21 October 2018

    Lap 48/56

    • Kimi Raikkonen leads. He took the lead from Hamilton in the first corner, and leads again after Hamilton's second pit-stop.
    • Hamilton is now in third, with Vettel in fifth which means the championship will be taken to Mexico next week if it finishes that way.
    • Verstappen makes it up to second after starting P18.
    • Leclerc, Ricciardo, Alonso, and Grosjean retire.
    • Sainz has a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
    • Stroll has a drive-through penalty for a collision with Alonso.

Raikkonen is 1.7 seconds ahead of Verstappen, who is 1.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton.

One slight mistake from either of the top two could give Hamilton the chance to win the world title for a fifth time - it would make him the joint second in that table, level with Juan Manuel Fangio, but two behind Michael Schumacher's seven successes.

Valtteri Bottas still has a big say in this, as he is trying to hold up and slow down Sebastian Vettel. Bottas is fourth, Vettel fifth.

Hamilton becomes the world champion if he gets ahead of Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel stays fifth. Ten laps, one overtake needed.

    Lap 45/56

Kimi Raikkonen is told he is going to be caught in the last three laps. Not sure if they mean by Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen would mean a win from 18th, Hamilton would probably mean the world title.

Can Kimi prove his team wrong?

Kimi Raikkonen has not won a race since returning to Ferrari. His last race win came when he was at Lotus - at the Australian Grand Prix in March 2013.

Remember, he has been booted out in favour of Charles Leclerc for next season, with the Finn heading for Sauber. This could well be the last win of Raikkonen's career, if he can hold on.

Max Verstappen, he who started 18th, is only two seconds off the lead. What a race.
