Strategy? A one-stop. Pit-stop time is about 20 seconds. The basic Monaco strategy is simple - run the soft tyres as long as possible before stopping for fresh, probably, mediums.

The timing of that stop has a wide window and will be dictated by when there is a gap to drop into, how long a team thinks it can run a strong pace, and when cars behind stop and (might) start to go faster. But safety car chances are as high as 80% and that can change things.

Hamilton caused the usual stir at a fan signing on Friday. Riding his motorbike along the pavement and into the actual event. Then burned his rear tyre out, helmetless, on the way out.

Security hated it - the fans loved it.

    M: "Anything."

J: "Do you still get excited or nervous, what are your feelings?"

    M: "Yeah, of course."

J: "Wow, this is the shortest interview in the history of the world… What can you do for P5 today?"

    M: "Anything."

  9. Any Game of Thrones fans out there?published at 14:00 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

Liam Cunningham is in the paddock, and he's a big F1 fan. He says: "I'm back to my school kid nervousness, there's nothing like this on the planet. Every time I come here it's like the first time, and I genuinely love this sport.

"I think we can get excited... the wind is getting up, the storm clouds are coming in and its possible there will be rain towards the end of the race. I brought my anorak in the hope that it rains!"

"If the two Mercedes drivers don't bang together in the first corner, I think Lewis will win and he deserves it. He's got this wonderful calmness about him, and he's got this new level of maturity that we haven't seen in the past, but I hope we have a few fights along the way this season."

  11. Leclerc lovepublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

Monaco is home to, well, most F1 drivers on this grid. So you'd expect the idea of a hometown hero is kind of lost on one of the world's richest communities.

Oh no, not one bit. They absolutely adore him here. Fans screamed his name as he cycled across the start-finish straight on Thursday after practice - waving as he went - and most local businesses are dressing up their window displays in support.

At the Amber lounge fashion show on Friday a cameraman was so desperate to get the right shot of him, he piled backwards into all the models as Leclerc entered the room.

In a town where everybody has 'done good', this local boy's already a hero.

  12. Hamilton looking for a third winpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

Will it be win number three in Monaco for Lewis Hamilton today?

The five-time world champion took victory for Mercedes in 2016.

His first win was for McLaren back in 2008 in an incident-packed race which saw rain, safety cars and Hamilton survive a collision with the barrier.

  13. 'It's a very glamorous colourful weekend'published at 13:55 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

Sir Jackie Stewart has been speaking to Jennie Gow. He says: "Monaco is still the jewel in the crown of F1. The film festivals, the stars, the King of Sweden is here and a whole load of other important people. It's the start of the season, it's a very glamorous colourful weekend.

"Passing is almost impossible - it can be done but it's not easy, it's going to be difficult. It's fantastic to spray the champagne up there, and it was wonderful times when I did it.

"Niki will never be forgotten, he was friend, he was coming into F1 in the same season when I was leaving but we spent a lot of time together in later years and his courage was admirable."

  14. Ricciardo back in top 10published at 13:52 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Monaco

After a difficult few races for the Renault team, Daniel Ricciardo made it into the top 10 for the first time since China - and in seventh place (but will start sixth after that penalty for Gasly). It came as something of a surprise, for Renault were nowhere in Thursday practice but the Australian pulled it out in Q2, pipping team-mate Nico Hulkenberg by just over 0.1secs, the German ending up 11th.

To be less than 0.3secs slower than Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari in Q3 was a good effort. “I’m happy with the end result,” he said, “especially with where we started on Thursday.”

All we need is some Rocky music to accompany this Romain Grojean workout video. Press-ups while balanced on footballs. Tricky.

Grosjean will hopefully have calmed down after a furious swearing rant over team radio yesterday when he got blocked off by Pierre Gasly. The incident cost Grosjean any hopes of making it into Q3 and gave Gasly a three-place penalty.

  20. 'It’s nice to be here in Monaco'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

Felipe Massa arrives in Monaco from Berlin after racing in Formula E yesterday. He says: "It’s nice to be here to watch in Monaco. I always want to be in the car but I think I had my time so I'm happy to watch and support the others.

"Ferrari were so strong in the winter test but unfortunately Mercedes are winning almost every race now. It's not what the people want to see and I hope they sort of their problems. Hopefully next year we can have some other surprises..."
