  1. 'Oh there's some fans shouting...'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Toto Wolff speaks to Martin Brundle, Jenson Button, and Simon Lazenby discussing the penalty for Sebastian Vettel. He says: "Emotions are high and it's good for the sport.

"It's a controversial one. I'm, of course, biased for Mercedes. If you're a Ferrari fan... oh there's some fans shouting..."

(The Tifosi are going wild behind the fence, shouting and 'booing' towards the foursome.)

"The stewards need to be supported, it doesn't get anymore professional and experienced, they should be respected. In Monaco, Valtteri was squeezed against the pitwall I thought the five-seconds for Max was lenient but we didn't complain about it.

"They have come up with a controversial decision but they have just put into place what is black and white. We need to rely on regulations and this is why we go racing, if we want to change regulations and I'm up for that...

Martin Brundle challenges Toto's view and explains and how it looks from Vettel's point of view... Toto says: "Listen Martin I'm not going to argue with that one. It's never 100 percent black and white. Wherever you stand its 60/40 decision, for and 60/40 against, and fair enough to interpret the other way and I respect your opinion."

On the championship, Toto says: "Always when you think you're in control you are going to lose it. We have team ill with flu, a hydraulic fluid leak and we didn't know if the car would make it to the finish so there's a lot happening behind the scenes for us."

  3. Vettel switches the '2' and '1' signspublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Judge for yourself. Childish and petty?

No matter what you call it, it's pretty funny.

Wil Vincent: Almost as big of a farce at the #CanadianGP, external is the biased #bbcf1, external coverage of Vettel. I’m certain they wouldn’t have used the words tantrum, childish and petty if that was Hamilton.

Yes I would Wil, absolutely I would.

  5. 'It's not making our sport popular'published at 21:20 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Some more quotes from Sebastian Vettel: "It is not about the title now, we deserved to win now and that is our opinion. It was a great race, they [the crowd] cheered me on all the race. it's a bit weird now, I don't know what else to say.

"It is not making our sport popular. People want to see us race, and it was racing. Just a shame when we have these funny decisions."

Vettel comes second after five-second penalty denies him the win

Simon Plumb: If Vettel hadn't made the mistake he would have won but he did and he was rightly penalised for his actions, very childish reaction afterwards as well.

Djamel Makhlouf: How anyone can think that should be a penalty for vettel is beyond me, he wasn't really rejoining the track as the rules state. He didn't gain a position... What should he have done? Stopped by the side of the road and stuck his indicators on? Madness.

Alexandru: The penalty was too much. Vettel could have braked when rejoining the track to avoid the racing line, but this is not what a race driver does... Maybe telemetry could tell if he could have done different.

  7. 'Lewis showed some good respect'published at 21:15 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Sebastian Vettel speaks to Martin Brundle on the podium, with Lewis Hamilton by his side. He says: "Well I think first of all, I really enjoyed the race and the crowd on every lap. Seeing them cheer me on it was very intense. I think you should ask the pitwall what they think we had a great show and Lewis showed some good respect.

Brundle: "Does it leave a bad feeling between two champions?

The crowd begins to 'boo' in the background.

Hamilton: "All I can say is I didn't make the decision, so I don't know what they're 'booing' at."

Vettel: "People shouldn't 'boo' at Lewis. It wasn't his intention to be in harms way, so people shouldn't 'boo' at him, they should at those who make the decisions."

  8. Driver of the day...published at 21:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

What a day for Sebastian Vettel. Get this man a beer.

Driver of the Day is going to be absolutely of no consolation to Vettel.

  9. What the rules saypublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

Stewards "reviewed video evidence and determined that Car 5 left the track at turn 3, rejoined the track at turn 4 in an unsafe manner and forced car 44 off track. Car 44 had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal"

The relevant rules are in Chapter 5 of the sporting code. 2b) "manoeuvers liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited."

2c) Should a car leave the track for any reason, and without prejudice to 2(d) below, the driver may re-enter the track. However, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any advantage.

and possibly: 2e) It is not permitted to drive any car unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers at any time.

  10. 'That's unfortunate but this is racing'published at 21:09 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Lewis Hamilton, who inherits the win for this race says: "Firstly I want to say a big thank you to my team it's been a big effort for everyone with my crash on Friday to get the car sorted, and I wouldn't have be able to race.

"That's not the way I wanted to win, I forced him into an error and he went wide and we nearly collided - that's unfortunate but this is racing.

Told that Seb believes, it was unfair, Hamilton says... "That's his opinion of course, I took the corner normally when you come back on the track you're not supposed to go onto the racing line.

"It was so hot here the Canadian weather is hard core and hard on the brakes. Ferrari were quick this weekend, nonetheless it's good points for the team. Towards the end I was struggling with brake temperatures, I was as close as I was ever going to be and the gap opened up again."

Hamilton wins because of Vettel penalty

Grant Kennett: Absolutely farcical. I genuinely don’t know where we go from here as F1 fans. How can we be expected to watch a motorsport where the drivers can’t race? The FIA and Liberty need to sort this mess and sort it immediately.

Shuggie Says: I’ll tell Vettel where he’s supposed to go NOT ON TO THE GRASS! No mistake then no penalty.

Luke: Pure brilliant driving from Hamilton to prevent the two cars from colliding. What Vettel was doing not allowing Hamilton through after though is the issue. He made a mistake and gained with Hamilton braking hard and losing momentum.

Some boos for Lewis Hamilton. Which is not fair in anyway at all. He doesn't make the decisions.

Credit to Sebastian Vettel, after a right old sulk, he tells the crowd not to boo.

That's the first mature thing the Ferrari man has done in the last 20 minutes.

Is Vettel in the wrong? #bbcf1

JavelBleach: Seb's going to get another penalty for that! Is he also going to hop onto the top of the podium?

Fraggle: Oh dear #Vettel, external acting like a child that hasn’t got their own way after the race. Yes it’s not a great result for him but rules are rules.

Mike Rivett: And that’s why people don’t have sympathy for #vettel, external awful sportsmanship as ever from him.

Philip West: Seb, you absolute legend! That’s the biggest dig at at the FIA I’ve seen for a long time!

God Save the Queen is played, to represent the Hamilton victory, and the Briton lifts Vettel up to join him on the top step of the podium. Vettel does not stay there long as he slinks back down to step number two.

  17. Postpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Awkward. Sebastian Vettel finally makes his way into the room where the top three are meant to meet.

"Where am I meant to go," is all he says in the direction of Lewis Hamilton.

No eye contact from anyone. The man I feel sorry for in this room is Charles Leclerc, who is very much the third man in the room, not knowing where to look and feeling massively uncomfortable.

  18. Postpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Absolutely childish pantomime from Sebastian Vettel, who picks up the big number '1' sign, where Hamilton's Mercedes is parked and moves it. He then picks up the massive number '2' sign and plonks it in front of Hamilton's car.

    Hilariously childish and petty.

Sebastian Vettel, strolling randomly through the Mercedes garage, then gets a massive round of applause from the fans, apparently an FIA official had to go and find him and remind him of his post-race responsibilities.

  20. 'This is a wrong world'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Vettel over team radio before he stropped off: "No, no, no, no, no, no. Seriously you need to be an absolute blind man let him pass and not control your car - where am I supposed to go? This is a wrong world, this is not fair."
