Five laps to go. Hamilton 0.6 seconds behind, but with a five-second penalty for Vettel incoming denying us the race end we were hoping for.

More worryingly for Vettel, maybe Charles Leclerc can get within five seconds to snatch second. He is 7.5 seconds off Vettel at the moment.

Scotia: Seb blatantly, cynically, cut the nose off Lewis following a mistake of his own making. Penalty warranted in my opinion.

Shuffle: I agree with Jolyon. I'd have done exactly the same but you can't argue with the rules . As a driver you have to keep the lead and risk the penalty

Josh Earl: Vettel crying when once again his lack of ability to handle the pressure is the only thing that has cost him

David Ball: I want a Hamilton win but that was not a penalty by Vettel.

Well, what do you expect when Sissoko sticks his arm up in the air needlessly? Anyone, that debate is best for another day.

    Vettel five-second penalty

JOkora: The stewards just screwed the race!!! What's Vettel to do?

Andrew Priestly: I’m no Vettel fan-boy, but that is a very harsh penalty handed out by the race stewards. He lost control of his car while rejoining the track and slid sideways off the grass verge.

Rob Hill: That's an enormously controversial call by the stewards. I prefer Hamilton to Vettel, but that's a massively questionable call.

Philip West: That is an absolute JOKE of a decision by the stewards. It’s hard racing. Just get on with it. Absolutely pathetic.

Some more moaning from Sebastian Vettel. Whatever happens in these last nine laps, this is a major, major talking point.

    Vettel five-second penalty #bbcf1

Natalie: If it was unsafe and put Hamilton at risk then I don’t see how he should get away with it

Karen Waddy: so THAT'S why Hamilton was hanging behind!

Rachel T: I know we all want a race - but VET did drive right in front of HAM

Vettel's race engineer: "We have a five-second penalty."

Vettel: "I had no where to go. No where to go - I did see him."

  11. 'Hamilton just has to drive to the win'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Lap 60/70

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Jack: It's difficult to argue with that.

Jolyon: "You can't argue with that. He loses the rear end and loses it again before he leaves the circuit and Hamilton had to back out of it. It's a big error from Vettel and he wasn't under that much pressure at the time.

"He completely blocked Hamilton coming back on to the circuit. Hamilton would've come through, and he basically drove to put Hamilton into the wall and you can't argue with a five-second penalty so Hamilton just has to drive to the win."

  12. Postpublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Lap 60/70

The current gap between Vettel and Hamilton is 2.5 seconds. Vettel needs to double that advantage if he is to win this now.

  13. Vettel five-second time penaltypublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Lap 58/70

The disastrous news that everyone was expecting. Sebastian Vettel may well have absolutely thrown this one away.

Under pressure from Hamilton, he lost control, went wide on to the grass, cut straight back on to the track, nearly sending the Briton back into the wall.

And it has cost Vettel. A five-second penalty for a dangerous re-entry. If Hamilton just stays close to Vettel then this race is the world champion's.

  14. Haas team radio - with the bosspublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Engineer: "None of us are happy about this pace, they stayed up all night to fix the car."

    Magnussen: "I know, I know"

Gunther Steiner: "None of us are enjoying it. That's enough now. Enough means enough."

That team debrief is going to be tense...

Apart from the front, where is the action? We have an interesting race for fifth between Max Verstappen, his former team-mate Daniel Ricciardo and the Australian's current team-mate Nico Hulkenberg.

But the Red Bull you would expect to still be faster so the Renault two need an error from the Dutchman.

Still, fifth would be a good return for Max after starting ninth.

Hamilton just made another lock up, but he doesn't quite have the pace to make a move on the Ferrari driver, but he does keep pressuring him to make mistakes.
