It’s like FA Cup final Saturday around here. Like when someone like Chesterfield get there - even the bakeries have their own homage to the thick-necked Monagasque.

Rosberg? Meh... Leclerc is their boy, and they LOVE him.

Here we go for Q1. Eighteen minutes, the top 15 advance into Q2, the other five are booted out in disgrace.

Will it be this man Valtteri Bottas or team-mate Lewis Hamilton on pole?

What about anyone else? Charles Leclerc was quickest in session three and has avoided any grid penalty for going too fast under virtual safety car conditions.

Most ludicrous rule of the weekend. Well, one of a few round here. No bottle tops allowed, so everyone either downs their water at the entrance, or sprays it over the family of the picnic you landed in on The Rock.

The view from Le Rocher - ‘The Rock’. As the rich and lucky rattle their jewellery in the grandstand, the paupers pay €60 to sit on a sandy bank.

You can see the cars brake into La Rascasse before edging around the final corner - Anthony Noghes - before blasting up the start-finish straight.

That’s if you haven’t slipped on the sand and landed in somebody’s picnic, which has happened several times already. It’s a health & safety, um, challenge.

Fifteen minutes to go until qualifying gets under way!

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Monaco

Daniel Ricciardo has not exactly had the start to his Renault career that he was expecting - the team were hoping to close on the top three but instead have found themselves struggling, with the eighth quickest car on the grid on average. But he insists: “I am enjoying it. I really am. I would love to get better results but as an environment I am enjoying it. and hopefully a special result here will kick things off nicely.”

Ricciardo has always gone well in Monaco, and is what Americans would call the Monaco champion, having won it last season. “I am as excited as I always am,” he said. “I live here but it is still different. The whole atmosphere is pretty unreal. (I’m) quietly confident and excited and optimistic we can do something good.”

What does qualifying hold for Lando Norris this afternoon?

The 19-year-old has managed to get his McLaren into Q3 three times this season, with his highest starting position on the grid seventh in Azerbaijan.

Following Thursday's practice sessions Norris tweeted: "We need to find a bit more to be at the front of the midfield."

Is Mercedes dominance ruining F1? #bbcf1

John Heynen: It’s not ruining it ( we’ve seen it before), but the issue is only one of the drivers is truly top notch, and everyone is hugely overstating how good he is as a result.

Neil Jones: Down to other teams to get better. Not Mercedes problem. People talk about cars being more equal but this would mean less overtaking. I think the slowest car should start from pole and work back then there will be much more overtaking

Rich: Sure it is, if you don't like to see Mercedes winning. That argument is very one sided. It was the same when Red Bull was winning. People didn't like it. I didn't like it. I got so sick of seeing Seb throw that 1 finger in the air. And in '13 he did it 9 times in a row.

Charles Leclerc is very much the man of the moment in Monaco.

Born in the principality, images of the young Ferrari driver can be seen on magazines in the shops and on the walls around the circuit.

Leclerc gave himself and Ferrari a bit of a boost by going fastest in final practice. He's currently under investigation for a Virtual Safety Car infringement in FP3 but word in the paddock seems to be that he'll escape with a reprimand.

Is Mercedes dominance ruining F1? #bbcf1

Rachel T: No, the continual bad performance from Ferrari despite oceans of cash is ruining the sport!

Terry Chow: Red Bull were dominate and so were Ferrari. Having a dominant team for me should raise other teams games!

Alex Clarke: Creating rules that are so complex that as soon as a team gets ahead of the rest it’s too difficult for everyone else to catch up is probably what’s ruining the sport
