Daniel Ricciardo, our race winner from last year, is sixth and best of the rest in the Renault. Vettel is seventh but set to tumble as he is not expected to be back out there.

Is Mercedes dominance ruining F1?
Daz Jambol: No! It will be a weak argument to blame the competition (Mercedes in this case) for performing better given the same set of rules. At times this season when they were challenged, they simply stepped back, worked and improved. It's up to the other teams to step up their game.
Neil Beattie: McLaren, Williams, Ferrari have all had periods when they cleaned up. Alain Prost went back to Williams because they knew he would win the title. The way the rules are almost guarantee domination if one team gets them right.
Kev 'O: What like Red bull before them and Ferrari in the Schumacher years. Williams and even McLaren have all had period of dominance! What’s ruining F1 is these silly rules & cars nowadays it’s trying to be so a platform for hybrid or electric motors when it should be about racing.

Daniil Kvyat, coming into the tunnel, grazes the wall on the left side. Nowhere near as much damage as Sebastian Vettel. The Russian may have just about got away with that one.
Another Sebastian Vettel error
Goon: The amount of driver errors from Vettel is getting beyond a joke. Last couple of years have been a catalogue of mistakes. If I was Ferrari I would be extremely concerned and considering whether it is time to move on.
CB: Oh Seb! The frustration getting to him. Makes you wonder how he's feeling. Far from being a championship contender, he's further back than he's been for a long time.

Vettel was following Lewis Hamilton. As Hamilton exited the first corner I saw a lock up from Vettel. The bad news for Vettel is he is out of this session. The good news is I don't think this will rule him out of qualifying.
Sebastian Vettel's front left tyre is a mangled mess. A sweary Vettel says "sorry for that" plus a good test of the F1 bleep machine.
That's his session done and Ferrari only have until 14:00 BST to get it fixed for qualifying.
Disaster for Sebastian Vettel at Turn One. It's a heavy prang as well. The front wing has been ripped off and the car is being collected by the pick-up truck.

BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Monaco
The Mercedes cars are sporting red halo head protection devices this morning, as a tribute to the team's late non-executive chairman Niki Lauda, who died on Monday. They will run like that for the rest of the weekend.
Lauda was famous for his red cap, which he wore from the moment he returned from his fiery accident at the Nurburgring in 1976 and forever more.
