While we're waiting for the stewards to tell us if Lewis Hamilton keeps his front-row place, read the report so far...

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc blitzed qualifying to take pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old set two laps quick enough for pole and ended the session 0.259 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton.

However, the Mercedes driver faces a possible penalty for impeding Alfa Romeo's Kimi Raikkonen.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen was third and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas fourth, as Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel failed to go out in Q3 because of an engine problem.

Vettel's car had a problem with the air-pressure line to the engine and Ferrari had to withdraw him from qualifying after failing to fix it in time.

  3. Don't hit your team-mate!published at 15:58 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

It may well be Nicholas Latifi's 24-year-old birthday but he has just been bumped and spun by team-mate Sergio Sette Camara to drop down from third to 11th in the opening stages of the FIA Formula 2 Championship race in Austria.

Sean Gelael leads the way after eight laps of 40.

Lando Norris is set to start fifth tomorrow and he says: "We as a team can be happy. We kept up our pace from Paul Ricard. I need to do my homework tonight and hopefully come back strong tomorrow.

"Just like last weekend I want to stay out of harm's way. Our race pace is pretty good. Hopefully I'll keep the others behind. There is a Ferrari behind so it will be tough."

Not the best qualifying session for Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who says: "Obviously the car was broken - we lost part of Q2 then Q3 completely.

"We made the decision to take the body off but couldn't get get it fixed in time. It's frustrating for sure but there was nothing we could do inside the car, it was nobody's fault.

"It's not happy from my side of the garage but great for the team to see Charles come through and get pole."

Pole in Bahrain, now another one in Austria. Hopefully this one ends a little better than the first.

The Bahrain race saw Leclerc leading with 10 laps to go before a power problem dropped him down to third.

A failure of the MGU-H, the part of the hybrid system that recovers energy from the turbo, saw him go from first to third and it could've been worse as Max Verstappen was on the charge before as a late safety car ensured Leclerc finished third.

That was Leclerc's first podium of his career, and he has finished third twice more in the past two races.

Lewis Hamilton has been asked about the incident with Kimi Raikkonen, which is still under investigation.

He says: "I saw one of the team's cars came by, I was braking for the hairpin, Turn Three, saw the other one coming and got on the brakes and went on. I didn't meet them in the corner but I put them off. I wasn't aware of the car coming but it was not the easiest."

    Charles Leclerc on pole

James Hammond: All that talent and maturity at such a young age. Multi-time champion in the making.

Josh Earl: outstanding pace from Leclerc, never looked in doubt. Great final lap from Lewis to put himself second on the grid, barring a penalty.

Rachel T: See - all F1 needs is for Ferrari to get their act together!

Max Verstappen delights the home fans and will start at least third tomorrow. He says: I'm really happy at the moment, this is an amazing result the whole weekend, with the upgrades, the car is working better and really happy to be in the top three.

  15. 'We've not been able to keep up with him'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Some quotes from Lewis Hamilton, who qualifies second but still faces an investigation after an incident with Kimi Raikkonen.

"Charles, congratulations to him he has been quick all weekend and we've not been able to keep up with him," says Hamilton.

"Positioning was so difficult, I was never getting the slipstream. It was tight at the end and we didn't know if we would start that lap. Max has been driving well all weekend and it's pretty cool to see three teams in the first three. I have to fight the young ones, I'm representing the more-grown men."
