  3. Postpublished at Lap 15/52

There is a whole heap of pit stops as we're still under safety car conditions with almost the whole field diving on to the hard tyres so that may well be the last pit action we see all day.

Saying that, we've had two major incidents in the opening 14 laps so there could well be some more.

Thankfully Daniil Kvyat is on his feet walking around after that smash. That impact is going to have shaken anyone up. It looked horrible.

  6. Team radiopublished at Lap 14/52

Daniil Kvyat: Oh guys, I am so sorry.

    Race engineer: Are you ok?

    Kvyat: Yes

  7. 'Suspension failure'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Kvyat's car is wrecked. He is OK but that is a lot of damage to the car. It was a suspension failure. That was a huge impact.

  9. Kvyat offpublished at Lap 13/52

This looks a bad smash for Daniil Kvyat who has gone into the barrier at Maggots and Becketts and his car is in many, many, many pieces.

There's no-one around him. That is a serious smash.

  10. Team radiopublished at Lap 12/52

Carlos Sainz's race engineer: The field is quite compressed at the moment. We are looking for Plan A target lap.

Plan A is always a good plan to be on.

    Hamilton leads from team-mate Bottas

Craig: Soooo, who are Red Bull gonna replace Albon with?

Nulla: Give Gasly another try Red Bull. I thought he would do well last year.

quixoticgeek: Well at least with Vettel that far back it reduces the chances of the two Ferraris crashing into each other...

  12. Postpublished at Lap 10/52

Sebastian Vettel started 10th and is still 10th. In previous years you would expect his Ferrari to just swallow up the Renaults, a Racing Point and the McLarens in front of him but not this year.

Earlier this week the word from Ferrari bosses was they would not be super competitive at the front again until 2022. No sign of any Ferrari joy today at the moment.

  13. Postpublished at Lap 8/52

Hamilton, searching for race win number seven at Silverstone, is 1.3 seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas and already four ahead of Max Verstappen in third.

Charles Leclerc has maintained his starting spot of fourth, but is already eight seconds off the lead.

Alexander Albon is the first to take a change of tyres and he is under investigation for that opening lap incident with Kevin Magnussen.

George Russell qualified 15th, but started 20th after a five-place penalty for not slowing down under yellow flag conditions in qualifying. The Brit has got ahead of team-mate Nicholas Latifi and is 17th with Nico Hulkenberg unable to start and Kevin Magnussen bounced out early doors.

The safety car restart is always the chance to pressure the guy ahead into a mistake and Bottas was not ready for that one.

    Magnussen and Albon collide

JuJu: Considering all the incidents Albon has now had at corners, the one consistency is Albon himself. You don't need to dive in every time you see a gap dude.

Funky Fox: If there's any consistency with the F1 stewards, Albon should get a 5 second penalty for the Magnussen contact, pretty much a carbon copy of the Albon/Hamilton contact in Austria.

  18. Postpublished at Lap 5/52

The safety car is coming in, we go again. Hamilton's first start at the beginning was a bit dodgy although he held his position, now the Brit gets a flyer.

  19. 'Bottas eased off'published at Lap 4/52

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Watching the start again and Bottas lifted off massively at the apex. He has given Hamilton points here by just chickening at the inside of Turn One. Rosberg would have kept his foot in, Bottas did not.

    Magnussen and Albon collide

Daniel Eckersly: Albon just Hamiltoned Magnussen

Athur Moore: Is the question now when not if Alex Albon gets dropped by Red Bull?
