This is a warning sign for everyone that the FIA are going to be hot on exceeding track limits this year.

No warning, no debate, just gone!

Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly is the latest driver to have his time deleted. It's Turn 11 that is the problem. The Mercedes are half a second clear of Sergio Perez in third. Carlos Sainz is fourth.

Gasly, Nicholas Latifi, Lance Stroll, Leclerc and Magnussen are those in the drop zone at the moment.

Who do you think will be on pole?

Ryan Manaton: I'm going Bottas, Verstappen, Hamilton

Peter: Pole? I'm afraid, breakdowns aside, the only interesting thing will be who is 3rd, 4th and so on. Both the Drivers and Constructors championship is already over, sadly.

An early marker from Valtteri Bottas. He goes around in under one minute 20 seconds...

And Lewis Hamilton goes even quicker!

First time deleted of the day and it's Charles Leclerc.

Quickest driver has lost his time so all that about the tow and the conflab on the radio has come to nothing.

It's good to see Daniel Ricciardo is ready to go after that issue in practice. He could be in the mix later on.

Charles Leclerc is having a grumpy word with his team. The two Ferrari's are following each other around, Leclerc leading Vettel before the German overtakes. Leclerc isn't happy. A breakdown in communication or something more?

Vettel goes fastest of the opening laps before Leclerc nips in 0.181 seconds behind him.

Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

We've seen a few laps get deleted and this could be crucial because if you lose a lap in qualifying, you could be out in Q1 or Q2.

It's all about getting the right lap at the right time and by that I mean being in the slipstream - especially for anyone other than a Mercedes.

  15. Postpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

There is so much discussion about the precious slipstream or tow today. It can be crucial around this high-speed track for drivers to gain an extra boost. We may see teams tactically following each other to benefit. It could also cause some traffic jams.

Hopefully this is fun but safe.

Renault say Ricciardo's car is ready to go after the fuel-pump failure that stopped him out on track at the end of final practice. Can he beat Verstappen to third? How big will be the traffic jams?
