Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon are having an inter-team battle for 10th. Ocon has the position, Ricciardo has a little nibble but Ocon defends. However, Ricciardo gets the better of his team-mate soon after with DRS helping him to complete the move into Turn 4.

  2. Checkmate to Hamilton?published at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

Verstappen did have a slow stop but then put in the fastest second and third sectors of the grand prix, which is why the damage was only just over a second to Lewis Hamilton.

In terms of strategy, though, that is checkmate to Hamilton. There is little hope of Verstappen getting back in this now in a pure fight, but you never know what else can happen.

Sergio Perez makes his second official stop and that elevates Max Verstappen into second, 3.5 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton.

Lando Norris is third but he is yet to come in for his next stop.

The hard tyre looks to be the only tyre to get them to the end now in a comfortable fashion.

Mercedes respond to the Red Bull stop as Lewis Hamilton pits from the lead. On go the hard tyres and he is back out in first, 1.8 seconds ahead of Sergio Perez and four seconds ahead of Max Verstappen in third.

Slow pit-stop for Verstappen for seemingly no reason. He lost big time there.

Red Bull look to be trying the undercut as Max Verstappen pits from second but its a poor, poor stop - five seconds - and that's really going to scupper those hopes. Verstappen, on hards, is out in third.

Sebastian Vettel gets the better of his old Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, taking advantage of a lock up by the Finn to move into 15th. Not the place on the grid that either would be particularly happy battling in.

Valtteri Bottas is hovering on the edge of the points. He is right behind Charles Leclerc, with the Ferrrari a bit all over the place. Bottas bides his time before sweeping past Leclerc and into 10th.

Super impressive from Sainz - so committed on the brakes.

Probably a good 10-20 metres later on the brakes than Ocon and just sailed around the outside.

Brilliant move from Sainz, up to sixth. McLaren are looking quite good here.

  20. 'Verstappen is just giving it a go - it makes sense'published at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

It is pretty much a two-horse race, which is no surprise, so Verstappen is just giving it a go now.

He's four seconds back. Probably, he will burn through his tyres very quickly and need a new set to try to get to the end of the race.

He doesn't want to have to do a three-stop by completely destroying this hard tyre so he can't be too kamikaze now, but he's giving it a good go.

He's got very little pressure from behind, so it makes sense.
