He will have title-rival Max Verstappen right beside him on Sunday in what promises to be a fascinating Spanish Grand Prix. Scroll down for reaction from both drivers.

Valtteri Bottas, who starts third on the grid: "That was close. Definitely was in the battle for the pole and I think the first runs in Q3 were faster ones but in Turn 10, I had snap at the apex and lost a tenth or so, and that's the margins of the pole. With a strong package, it's going to be a good fight tomorrow, no doubt.
"I think it'll be close between us and Red Bull. I think there are possibilities to do one stop or two stop - but I'm not going to reveal ours!"

Image source, Getty ImagesMore from Lewis Hamilton on his pole-winning lap: "I think we've been strong all weekend and I made some changes - I had a bit of anxiety about the changes about the changes we were going to make. for qualifying - you're always trying to make the car better but it is a bit of a gamble because you have to keep the race in mind also.
"We made the change and immediately I thought 'this is the wrong one' and it was my call at the end, but it was really hard. So that's why I was behind the whole qualifying. I was making small tweaks here and there to make pace but the first lap was the best lap of the session - which was great.
"The changes that we made, I had so much understeer, the car was being lazy and wouldn't turn corners the way I wanted. I was making small adjustments to get the car to turn. It was my cleanest lap and I'll always remember it.

Stephen Taylor: Great pole by Hamilton but a the real shocker is Perez down in a 8th . That is not what Red Bull hired him to do. Lando also disappointing at the end.

Lewis Hamilton, who claims his 100th career pole position: "I can't believe we are at 100 and it's down to the men and women back at the factory who are continuously raising the bar. The support I have, it's a dream to work with these guys.
"Who would have though at the end of 2012 when we made the decision to partner, we'd be qualifying at 100. I feel humble and grateful - it's like my first!"

Lewis Hamilton is beaming as he begins his post-qualifying interview.
Stay with us for his thoughts. "I'll always remember that one," he says.
Max Verstappen, who qualified second: "It was good. I struggled in Q1 but we sorted out the balance in Q2 which was good. Q3 both laps were pretty decent, the second run was a little worse. It is quite gusty. Nevertheless second for us is very good today. We know they are hard to beat around here. To be that close we can be happy with that."

Brilliant job from Lewis Hamilton, of course, but for the second week in a row, no one improves on the second flying lap. The track just seemed to drop away.
No-one could improve on the second flying lap so Hamilton wins it with his first run.
It's his ONE HUNDRETH pole in Formula 1.
Verstappen takes second on the grid. Bottas is third.
Hamilton can't improve. What about Verstappen?!
