Away from the danger of elimination, Hamilton and Bottas did improve slightly in their laps at the end of the session but Verstappen still had a decent two-tenth buffer at the top.

Just had a chat with the guys at Red Bull. They said Max Verstappen was happy with his lap time and didn't feel the need to go back out again. He's only used two sets of soft tyres in this qualifying session... impressive!
You would say that, Lance.
He did outqualify his team-mate to be fair.
Stroll: "I think that was a good effort, Brad."
Aston Martin: "Good job mate!"
Out: 11th Stroll, 12th Gasly, 13th Vettel, 14th Giovinazzi, 15th Russell.
By the skin of his teeth... Daniel Ricciardo gets into Q3.
Sergio Perez has saved himself too.

All that pace and promise for Pierre Gasly in Q1 has not come out in Q2.
Esteban Ocon goes into seventh which puts Daniel Ricciardo in trouble.
Vettel and Gasly are out.
Those in the drop zone have one shot at it. Charles Leclerc goes fifth. That's probably enough for him.

I'm surprised to see Max Verstappen staying in the garage - even if he is safely through. Normally Red Bull and Mercedes are using this as Q3 practice. Verstappen is seemingly happy and will save an extra set of tyres for tomorrow.
The drivers jostle for space on a track.
Hamilton and Bottas are out again but Verstappen seems happy to stay in.

This is pressure time npw as just two tenths separate P5 to P13. This is the toughest Q2 session that I've seen in a long time!
George Russell's lap is only good enough for 14th. That will likely be that for him.
Three minutes remain. It's so close. You wouldn't want to mess up here.

It's going to come down to millimetres around this track to get into the top 10 - let alone take pole position.
There's just over a tenth between Leclerc in sixth and Vettel in 13th.
Stroll, Gasly and Ricciardo are the most at risk at the moment as we prepare for the final burst.
"Massive understeer!"
George Russell is out for the first time in the session with six minutes remaining. It seems he's saving tyres.
He couldn't get into Q3, could he?
Ocon goes into seventh. He'll still be twitchy after that.
Fernando Alonso is into fifth - well clear of his team-mate.
The Ferraris of Sainz and Leclerc are in fifth and sixth.
Ocon, Perez, Vettel, Giovinazzi and Russell are in the elimination zone.
It's not all good for Red Bull, however. Sergio Perez is way off the pace and his time is only good enough for seventh.
Leclerc, Sainz, Ricciardo, Ocon, Alonso and Russell are yet to set a time.

That is quick! That is a real gauntlet thrown down by Max Verstappen. Fastest in all three sectors and commanding around the whole lap!
