  13. 'Everyone will hold on'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 18 July 2021

    Jennie Gow
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter at Silverstone

Eighteen seconds is the amount of time it takes to come in, change all four tyres, and then get back out again.

It's actually quicker to go through the pit lane than it is the racing line.

Everyone will hold on as long as they can on these tyres because if there was a safety car, that reduces the amount of time it takes to stop by half.

We reckon the pit window will be open around 18-25 if you started on the medium tyres.

  14. Perez on the chargepublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 18 July 2021

Perez is Red Bull's only hope now today. He started from the pits and has already climbed up to 12th, that's a superb effort as he looks for an unlikely points haul.

Obviously, there's a long way to go, but if you add 10 seconds on to Hamilton's current time, he'd still only be fifth.

  17. 'No point in the undercut'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 18 July 2021

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

There's no point for Hamilton to try and undercut [pitting earlier] Leclerc because he's just going to be sitting in the pits - and then he's only going to be effectively overcut by everyone else who hasn't got a penalty.

He either has to pass Leclerc or hope Leclerc right now can pull out enough of a gap from those behind.

    Leclerc is really quick, though.

Matthew Cole: 10 seconds only drops him to 9th, and only 5 seconds from a teammate who will let him through to the podium. Not enough of a penalty for a championship-changing incident.

Mark Hempinstall: That was a racing incident. Hamilton should not have a penalty, Verstapen should have stayed wide, even if that meant slowing! It's the only way we will stop the lack of overtaking.
