Carlos Sainz is in. The gods have answered the Ferrari call.
Safety car!
Yuki Tsunoda has gone off the track. His Alpha Tauri has stopped.
The fastest lap fairy visits Lewis Hamilton, who is in the podium spots in third place.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc has picked off Zhou Guanyu and for ninth and then the Ferrari man gets a freebie as Lance Stroll pits.

quixoticgeek: That's almost a worst case scenario for Leclerc. Really feel for him.
The other Mercedes of George Russell is the next car into the pits. He's got enough air between himself and the Alpine of Esteban Ocon to come back out in fourth.
1. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
2. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
3. George Russell (Mercedes)
4. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
5. Esteban Ocon (Alpine)

It's slow for Leclerc in the pits. He finally gets away and that was 5.3 seconds. He is waving his hands in the cockpit furious with that.

Ben: Sainz chipping away at Verstappen's lead, but it's like a cat playing with a mouse. Max is managing his tyres and can up his pace whenever he needs too.
Tanya Smith: Ferrari are losing the World Championship for Leclerc. We were so close to having an amazing season
Max Verstappen has come into the pits for a tyre change. Speedy spot.
Carlos Sainz leads the race but wait! Red Bull didn't calculate that as cleanly as usual and the Dutchman is passed by Lewis Hamilton.
It doesn't last long, however, as the pace of the Bull is too much for the Mercedes. Hamilton in for new rubber.
"Tyres really starting to drop, mate," a worried Max Verstappen tells his Red Bull race engineer.

Rachel: Come on Carlos - keep closing the gap!
Nicholas Latifi in 18th isn't exactly bothering the quick runners at the front but the Williams comes into the pits and experience a rubbish stop.
Here's Charles Leclerc in too. Another dreadful stop. 5.3 seconds. He comes out behind Daniel Ricciardo in 12th spot.

Ben: I'm impressed with Guanyu Zhou. His best race since Bahrain.
Charles Leclerc has done 38 laps now on his hard tyres. Can that rubber carry him any further down the road? The prancing horse is galloping towards that Alpine but the crowd, once again, see Esteban Ocon ahead as the two cars go past the grandstands.

Pierre Gasly has come in to the pits. He came in on lap six to switch from the medium to the hard tyre to give him a bit of clear air so he could go out there and be a bit more punchy. I think he has gone on to the hard tyre again to try to get to the end of the race. So it's a two-stop strategy.
Add one more car to that list of non-pitters: Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari man is still on his mission to pass the Alpine of Esteban Ocon but so far it has been access denied on every attempt.
Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll are the only two drivers not to make a trip to the pits to change rubber.
The Canadian Aston Martin driver is in ninth place - but others want that spot: Zhou Guanyu, Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo, and Stroll is having to cling on and manage his tyres with precision.
