Has Alonso taking a hit somewhere? The Spaniard is still running in third but it looks like he could've brushed a wall somewhere.

Fairly clean first lap from everyone out there, I have to say Lewis Hamilton from the clean side of the grid, a fantastic start, getting back up to second position past Fernando Alonso, he said before this race he feels this has been his best chance this year to take the fight to Red Bull.

  18. Verstappen in controlpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

The chances are high that Max Verstappen is going to extend his championship advantage even further today, with the Dutchman starting on pole and aiming for his sixth win of the 2023 season.

Verstappen's team-mate Sergio Perez needs the points more than most in Canada to stop the likes of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton creeping up and swiping his second place.

Alonso has the chance to draw level in the standings with Perez later on, if the two-time world champion finishes second and the Mexican driver fails to come home inside the top 10.
