  8. 'We are going in the right direction'- Hamiltonpublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

Lewis Hamilton secured P3 in Canada and said post-race: “It’s honestly been a great weekend for us, we’ve been slowly chipping away, I think the Astons took a little bit of a step ahead when they added the upgrades but we are working on bringing some more moving forwards but just to have this consistency and be up on the podium up here in Montreal which is such an incredible city, we’ve got such a great, great crowd here every single year without fail so big big thank you to everyone here.

On the team’s recent upgrades and the progress made, he added: “Firstly quite an honour to be up there with two world champions, I was really excited to be third and be in that mix. But unfortunately we didn’t have the pace today I think where we struggled is we knew going into this weekend this wouldn’t be our strongest circuit, as we struggle in the lower speed corners particularly and that’s really where I was losing to Fernando and to Max just on traction out of pretty much every corner.

"We've got a lot of work to do, adding rear downforce to the car and a little bit more efficiency but we are chipping away and like I said I do think we will get there at some stage. We are going in the right direction."

  9. 'It was an amazing battle' - Alonsopublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

Fernando Alonso, who finished second at the Canadian Grand Prix, on whether that was the race he expected: "Probably yes I think we were hoping to challenge the Red Bulls. We lost a place at the start with Lewis. It was a battle with the Mercedes and Lewis was pushing all race, I didn’t have a lap were I could relax a little bit. It was an amazing battle.

On his battle with Lewis Hamilton: "At the beginning I had a bit more pace but at the end I think Lewis had a bit more pace. It was a bit tough. It was a very demanding race, all 70 laps.

On any issues with his car: "I don’t know, the team didn’t tell me. Maybe it was so I don’t worry too much. I don't know, I felt the car was ok, I just followed instruction. Maybe we have a bit more pace so for the next one, we can put more pressure on Max."

  10. '100th GP win for Red Bull incredible'- Verstappenpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

Max Verstappen equals Ayrton Senna’s record of 41 race wins and said post-race in Montreal: “Of course very happy right now it was not a very straight forward race because the tyres were not getting into their window, it was very cold today compared to Friday and we were sliding around quite a bit but we made it work and to win again today and to win the 100th Grand Prix for the team that’s incredible.”

On earning Red Bull’s 100th victory for the team, he added: “It’s amazing, I mean I never expected to be on these numbers myself so you know we keep enjoying working hard, and today has been a great day as well.

And on if he thought this would be the expected outcome of the race, he said: “Firstly, I expected more or less of what we had today but it was like I said really difficult to keep the grip and temperature into the tyres because the temperature was disappearing very quickly which was maybe why the gap wasn’t that big but overall we won and that’s the most important.

“They (the fans) are so passionate the sport especially with the rain hanging in there was so great to see and we love coming here and hopefully we can keep doing this for a ling time.”

The cooldown room chat has got going between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers are talking about the bumpiness of the Canadian circuit.

"We suck in the low-speed corners," is, I think, what Hamilton tells Verstappen. Big apologies to the seven-time champ if he didn't!

George Russell's crash flashes up on the screen. "Ooof!" the three say in unison.

Time for the podium celebrations. Back-to-back pole positions and race wins for Max Verstappen in Montreal.
