The team have just told me it was a hydraulic leak that stopped him so not a great afternoon for the Alpine driver who of course scored a podium back in Monaco but his luck not on his side this afternoon.
Engineer: We are thinking of planning for plan B.
Sainz: What was plan B? I have forgot.

The Mercedes car, this kind of circuit right now, is not their friend. It's kind of a power circuit as well as a downforce circuit, you spend so much time flat out around Silverstone and they don't have great top speed, they are not massively quick in a straight line or they don't get up to top speed very well.
Lap 19/52
Ferrari have called in a driver, but who it is? It's Charles Leclerc, who switches from the medium compound to the hard tyre.
Lap 18/52
Oscar Piastri is in no immediate danger of losing his third place, as the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc is four seconds down the road.
Carlos Sainz is told maybe it's time for plan B....
Lap 17/52
No change in the order on lap 16 and by the next lap at Silverstone, world champion Verstappen has extended his lead to over three seconds.
Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez has put a point in his pocket. The Mexican passes Alex Albon's Williams for 10th place.

Light drizzle - that is what Max Verstappen's radio is saying at the moment. How quickly will that develop?
Lap 15/52
Light drizzle at Silverstone? So says the latest weather update. Max Verstappen's latest lap is in the 1:32s, while Lando Norris has a couple of times deleted for track limits. One more the 23-year-old will be in possession of a black and white flag.

I think all of the front runners, the top four especially are looking towards a one stop strategy, George Russell though probably looking at a two stop doing something outside the box, Lewis Hamilton's pace on the medium hasn't been strong, he was quick on Friday on the soft tyre on his long run.

quixoticgeek: McLaren's biggest strength right now is Russell. He's keeping Charles from hunting the orange cars down.
Lap 14/52
"Wind is making it difficult to drive at the moment," says Max Verstappen to Red Bull. Is that the reason the gap between himself and the McLaren of Lando Norris is just two seconds?
Pierre Gasly is the only Alpine out on track now after Esteban Ocon's race ended early and the Frenchman is trying his best to get under the skin of Fernando Alonso in eighth.
Engineer: Now we make plan A work.
Norris: Yes I think so for sure.

All the engineers have a certain weather radar station available to them on their screens in their garages and we actually just saw a clip of one of those, and it did look like the majority of the rain would miss to the North-West of the circuit, however they can sometimes be wrong.
Engineer: We are tracking the rain but it will miss us on the radar.
Russell: Wouldn't be too sure about that - there are drops on the visor.
Lap 13/52
Sergio Perez's first target was the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll and the Canadian is dispatched by the Red Bull driver with ease.
Meanwhile, McLaren think they should stick to plan A. Lando Norris says... erm... yeah, OK.
Lap 12/52
With Esteban Ocon's retirement, Sergio Perez finds himself in 12th place with just Lance Stroll and Alex Albon to fight for a place in the points.
George Russell asks Mercedes if they are sure the weather is going to behave itself?

The clouds are still here lingering over the circuit and it's very breezy, I'm looking up at three flags, one for Great Britain obviously, one for the FIA, one for Formula 1, and they are all floating and blowing the breeze very aggressively, so I can't imagine what it's like in a Formula 1 car.
Lap 11//52
Silverstone may just escape any downpours today, so put those intermediates back in the box.
