Lando Norris, who starts second: "I'll challenge Max for probably two laps and then he'll drive away.

"There is quite a bit of tyre degradation here and that's not our forte, let's say. When it starts to come into play, we start to struggle in certain corners.

"I'm going to give it a try but Max is always on another level on Sundays."

Max Verstappen says he received a text message from Sebastian Vettel ahead of him potentially equalling his winning run record.

Verstappen said: "After five wins in a row or something, Seb texted me and said: 'Well done what you're doing. Keep it up - you're going to do it.'

"I was like: 'That's nine wins in a row; that's something very impressive.' And I never thought I would be already on eight. But it's not something that's constantly in my head. I am not in the sport to try and break records, I'm just here to win in the moment."

Alex Withington: I can't speak highly enough of how well organised the #DutchGP, external is. Trains every 5 mins, cycle parks and no cars allowed. One token each for a plastic cup on arrival means hardly any litter. Just need a little rain to spice it up now!

There’s a lot of people behind my return to F1 this weekend…but a massive shout out to Rosanna Tennant.

She’s been amazingly supportive and selfless as we find out what I can and can’t do.

Looking forward to bringing you the race today alongside her. Thank you.

Everyone knows who is likely to win the race. Max Verstappen has been as imperious as ever this weekend, to the delight of the 'orange army' of Dutch fans who are cheering his every move at this race that was literally made for him.

Not only was Verstappen 0.537secs quicker than Lando Norris, whose McLaren had looked through the weekend as if it might be a threat for pole to upset the party by the North Sea, but there was a 1.313secs chasm between him and team-mate Sergio Perez in the difficult conditions.

It was a reflection of a question that has been spinning around the F1 paddock for a while now this year. Clearly the Red Bull is the best car on the grid, especially in race trim, but how much of its advantage is the car and how much its lead driver?

"Bizarre," Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said after qualifying when asked what he thought about the massive gaps Verstappen has been putting on Perez since the fifth race of the season in Miami. "Checo is not an idiot. He is a grand prix winner. And he was at Racing Point (the former name of Aston Martin). So I cannot comprehend.

"We have seen Max has destroyed every single team-mate that was with him. Whether it's his ability to create a car around himself that is just very tricky to control but fast if you can and that makes those gaps. But odd."

Barring a problem of some kind, Max Verstappen will waltz off into the distance today to take his ninth consecutive victory, and equal the record set by Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull 10 years ago.

But who will be second? Alex Albon clearly doesn't fancy his chances. Sergio Perez will likely have his sights set on making it a Red Bull one-two from seventh on the grid, and the smart money would be on a battle between him, Lando Norris, George Russell and the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso, who starts fifth, for the podium places.

  10. 'I want to win in front of my home crowd and we will do everything we can today- Verstappenpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 27 August 2023

Max Verstappen will start in pole for today's race, his seventh of the season. On the weather conditions, he said: "Yeah lately it's been a bit like that if it's wet, even where we are standing right now it's very slippery it's easy to make mistakes it's old school circuit so when you make a mistake it's easy to go off, so of course you don't want that, you want a good race today. We will see what happens."

On his feelings on potentially equalling Sebastian Vettel's record of nine consecutive race wins, he added: "I'm not really here for the record I am here for a good race, I want to win in front of my home crowd and we will do everything we can today."

And on if Lando Norris in the McLaren will be a threat, he said: "Yeah you never know what happens, they've been good all weekend, so yeah we will see during the race."

    Hello!

It is race day at the Dutch Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen continues his bid to become a triple world champion by claiming another win today, this time in front of his own fans.

Verstappen produced a monster lap in a stop-start qualifying in the wet yesterday, taking pole by more than half a second ahead of Lando Norris.

Dutch fans once again are here in numbers desperate to see one thing - a Verstappen victory.

It is hard to see them going home disappointed.

A decade ago, Sebastian Vettel won all of the last nine races of the season to not only secure the world championship, but also a place in history with the longest winning run in Formula 1.

No-one has been able to match that feat since, but Vettel looks almost certain to have company by the end of today, with Max Verstappen a win away from equalling the record.

Backed by a vociferous home crowd, it is hard to see Verstappen fluffing his lines today.
