Larry: No joke. If I'm Perez in first and my teammate has undercut me when I do much to help him in other seasons and the team didn't even ask me. Then I'd be done with them. Red Bull do not deserve the loyalty Perez has given them.

Another roll of the dice by Mercedes as George Russell pits for hard tyres.

    Nothing to lose.

It looks like there's a penalty heading Gasly's way. We just had an indication he was speeding in the pitlane.

He's gone hard into the wall and what was looking so good yesterday afternoon, a safety car has been deployed. He's totally destroyed the front right of that car but Sargeant is ok.

  5. Crash!published at Lap 17/72

Logan Sargeant is into the barriers just after turn seven. It continues a bad weekend for him after he crashed in Q3 yesterday.

    Out comes the safety car.

Out in front, Max Verstappen is working on getting his advantage up once again and he leads Sergio Perez by 3.5 seconds.

"I was forecast for a podium? ****, how did we mess this up?"

  8. Postpublished at Lap 15/72

But even more angry, and understandably, is George Russell. He was well in the shout for a podium but he's way down in 18th now. With Lewis Hamilton 16th, Mercedes look to have made some bad calls with their strategy.

Fernando Alonso dives down the inside of Zhou Guanyu and is up into third.

Sergio Perez appears to question the decision for him to be called into pit when he did as he asks: "Did Max undercut us?".

Now Sergio Perez pits and Max Verstappen, now on the softs, is able to complete the undercut on his team-mate and he is back into the race lead.

Alfa Romeo have gone in a different direction to the rest (not on the circuit, thankfully), as Zhou Guanyu is back out on medium tyres.

  14. Postpublished at Lap 11/72

Max Verstappen pits from second to join pretty much all the rest of the field in switching to softs.

Sergio Perez, the race leader, is staying out for now.

  19. 'The weather keeps changing'published at 14:16 British Summer Time 27 August 2023

British racing driver on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The problem is when the track does start to dry, you're on wet tyres, you will tear the tyres up but at the same time if you are out on the slick tyres for example you are just going to slip and slide everywhere they will start to grain, still deg the tyre, it's a tough one.

We have teams reporting that rain is coming in ten minutes, some teams saying that rain isn't coming, so it just keeps changing, the weather keeps changing.

  20. Postpublished at Lap 9/72

Max Verstappen is up into second now and rapidly closing in on Sergio Perez with the reigning world champion having just done the fastest lap of all.
