Red Bull's Max Verstappen survived losing the lead in early rain and a red flag for a late torrential downpour to win a chaotic Dutch Grand Prix.
Verstappen equalled the all-time record of nine victories in a row and took his 11th win of the season to extend his championship lead to 138 points.
A shower just as the race started dropped Verstappen to second behind team-mate Sergio Perez before he repassed on lap 13, while heavy rain with eight laps to go forced a red flag and a 45-minute delay.
But through it all Verstappen was always in control, as he has been for the entire season, and never really looked like losing the race.
George Russell, who retired from the race late on, tells Sky Sports: "It was when we were side by side [contact with Lando Norris] in the chicane at the end of the lap
"We had such a fast car but all the decisions with the weather went against us. We need to look into what we could have done better.
"We were expecting the rain to stay for one or two minutes but it stayed for 10. It was ready for inter tyres but I thought I could brave it out for one or two laps more. We'd rather have a fast car and a bad race than the opposite but a missed opportunity today. There's a lot of positives to take away.
"Monza is a whole different beast."
Lewis Hamilton started in 13th in the Mercedes and finished in sixth, he said post-race: "I feel really good, I kind of didn't know how today was going to go naturally, I sat here last night just racking my brain about where did we go wrong and how did we end up in this position, but then I was just working out how I can progress this morning.
"I was the only one of the medium tyre, I wanted to be offset to the people around me, not everyone on the grid and when that rain then came out it really as a team we made the wrong decision. It was ultimately the teams call and we all paid the price for that, but we came out last and then after that I was just chasing, kept my head down.
"I think it was a really good example of when you fall and stumble to get back up and keep trying, and every time I had to pit I came out behind and just kept on chasing and chasing."
On the car's potential, he added: "I think today I had the pace, in those conditions, if we made the right call, I had the pace to be challenging the top two."
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we stayed out catastrophically too long. It is annoying as the car had the pace. From then on we were just recovering as we could.
"I'd rather have good pace and a mediocre result, even if it hurts. It is bittersweet because the result is really bad it could have been [better] but that doesn't count in sport.
"We will review thoroughly. It is never one person and one department. It was subpar from all of us and that includes me.
"It stings when it sticks."
Lewis Hamilton felt bad calls "as a team" stopped them from having a much better race day. He felt he had the sort of pace that could challenge the top two if the right calls had been made.
Red Bull have won 23 of the last 24 races, a run that stretches back to the French GP in July 2022.
Fernando Alonso got the fastest lap of the race as he pushed in those closing laps to give Max Verstappen a little bit of a scare.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner: "The expectation on [Verstappen], how much noise and support that he's had - everyone feels that, we feel that within the team.
"But he's in the zone, he can focus on himself and get the job done. To match Sebastian, nine straight victories, to do it twice as a team is really incredible."
Red Bull's Max Verstappen earns his ninth consecutive race win, equalling Sebastian Vettel’s record.
He said post-race: “Incredible and today they didn’t make it easy for us with the weather to make all the right calls but incredibly proud, I already had goosebumps when they were playing the national anthem before the start. Even with all the bad weather and the rain the fans were still going at it, so an incredible atmosphere.
“I’m going to enjoy this weekend, it’s always tough, the pressure is always on to perform and very happy of course to win here.”
Fernando Alonso, who finished second at the Dutch Grand Prix: "It was a very intense race at the beginning with the wet conditions. We were very fast, we maybe stopped one lap too late, the same as the leaders. The car was flying, it was very competitive, very easy to drive. In these conditions you need a car that you can trust and I did trust the car today."
On enjoying the race: "I did enjoy, thanks to the fans the energy is very unique. When we first came here, I thought I would never experience the podium because I was not in the position to think about that. Today is going to be very special to share the podium with Pierre and Max."
On getting back in the zone: "It's difficult to concentrate and stay focused for such a long period of time but as I said this is a special race track, with all the fans and energy you always feel focussed. I am happy for Max."
"I was trying to move in the restart but I thought maybe I cannot exit the circuit so I stayed calm in second."
Fernando Alonso has also got a massive goblet and he looks chuffed about that.
Not sure how I feel about the winning trophy as Max Verstappen holds it aloft. It looks a bit like a novelty oversized goblet.
Not one for the mantlepiece.
Ok, it is a familiar name as the race winner but that was a very entertaining race packed with action and drama.
I could have done without that delay because of the rain, but otherwise great fun.
Pierre Gasly is first onto the podium and is clearly absolutely loving life, as he should. A fantastic performance.
Massive cheer for Max Verstappen as he climbs onto the top step at the Dutch Grand Prix for the third year in a row.
Pierre Gasly finished in third, his best result for Alpine since joining them at the start of the season, he said afterwards: “All I want to say is lets go, I’m feeling so stocked, what a race coming back from the summer break, it hasn’t been the easiest start of the year just trying to improve race by race and yeah it was good to get some time off, come back and get straight into it. I’m super pleased for all the guys to get that P3.”
On his five-second penalty, he added: “I was pretty upset I got a five-second penalty earlier in the race and I was like ok now it’s one-one, and obviously I tried to push as hard as I could to stay within five seconds and managed to do it. It was a very long race, very challenging from start to finish but it was greatly executed from all of the guys.”
A record-equalling ninth win in a row for Max Verstappen, the first driver to have such a run since Sebastian Vettel in 2013.
It is hard not to see him breaking the record in Monza at the next race.
Fernando Alonso is a very popular face on the podium, the crowd giving him a huge cheer as he prepares to give his thoughts on finishing second.

Speaking to Christian Horner on Max Verstappen's victory, he said: "He's done it, matched the nine victories of Sebastian, I mean what a performance today."
