  1. Fighting the par three cursepublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 10 April 2014

American Ryan Moore is fighting back against the curse of winning the par three competition at Augusta. In its 53-year history, the par three winner has never gone on to win the green jacket and he looked to be heading the same way when he bogeyed the third and fourth. Moore has recovered though with birdies on 10 and 11 to move back to level par after 13. Could the jinx be lifted this year?

Justin Rose has a tricky uphill putt for an eagle to try and rescue his round on eight. Not too close. Phil Mickelson is within a whisker with his shot at a birdie on the same hole. It flirted with the left-hand edge, but coyly refused to seal the seal.

It is not a terrible round for Rory McIlroy. No one is running away with it at the moment, so Rory is right in there at one-under par.

  8. Donald at five over after ninepublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 10 April 2014

Rory McIlroy has to be content with a one-under 71. That is good enough for a share of tenth place on the leaderboard. That is a decent platform to launch an attack over the next three rounds.

Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player got the Masters underway earlier today with their ceremonial tee off. Just the 13 green jackets between them, but the magic of Augusta is still not lost on Player, who first competed in the tournament in 1957.

"What a morning," he says. "To be on that first tee with Arnold and Jack - 100 cameras, over 200 press and 10,000 people at seven thirty in morning. What a compliment, love and respect to give us. How lucky can I be that this gift has been bestowed upon me? I never take it for granted. It grows in perfection. Thanks Stephan.

But the snappers have not managed to capture them.

Instead they have been zooming in on ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and his daughter Paulina. Paulina is engaged to Dustin Johnson for your information.
