I make that time to wrap this live text for the evening. Hit the hay and re-join us for tomorrow's action where we narrow down the field to the real contenders.

    Bye for now.

Luke Donald on Twitter: , external"Got a two-shot penalty on the 9th today. Left my bunker shot in the bunker and touched the sand before my next shot. Pretty dumb mistake. I can accept the odd poor shot but making a mistake like that is pretty frustrating and so unlike me. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now, brush it off and try and make a bunch of birdies tomorrow."

Somewhere up in the rafters of the Augusta National clubhouse, some, all or none of the amateurs in this year's Masters will be taking advantage of an invitation to stay in the Crow's Nest.

It is the cheap-price on-site communal accommodation laid on for those who are yet to turn professional and the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods have graduated from there to green jackets.

Well worth five minutes of your time to take a look at a slideshow of images from one of the most storied dormitories in sport., external

A full list of tee-times is up and ready for your perusal on the BBC Sport website.

Leader Bill Haas will hit the course at 18:15 BST, defending champion Adam Scott is in the mix from 18:48 BST and Rory McIlroy is bringing up the rear in the last group at 18:59 BST. Interesting right up until the end.

Lee Westwood reacts to his one over 72: "I didn't really make enough of par fives, that's where you're scoring on this golf course.

"It was a bad draw being out last. You sort of sigh when you see the draw. That's as hard as it will play all day. I will be out a bit earlier tomorrow and hopefully it's more scoreable."

  6. Major winners flounderingpublished at 00:37 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

What was that about winning a major makes more success easy to come by? The last three players to win a major are not really giving that theory much substance. Jason Dufner is eight over, Justin Rose four over and Phil Mickelson is also plus four.

  7. Pick up on the par fivespublished at 00:35 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Rory McIlroy described today's course set-up as "very difficult" and no where has that been more pronounced than on holes 11 and 12. At the heart of Amen Corner, the two have provided just eight birdies between them and swallowed up 65 bogeys. In contrast, the par-five second has given up 40 birdies already, while 13, also a par five, has been birdied 41 times and eagled twice.

That is our last group off the final green. The patrons are heading off to see what else Augusta has to offer. I think they will be disappointed. Even the Lonely Planet says that there is "little reason to venture here". I think that is a pretty damning verdict in travel-guide speak., external

  10. Westwood finishes +1published at 00:29 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Not quite enough oomph behind that one from Lee Westwood. More drive at the hole would have resisted the break on that putt. As it is the slope lures the ball off the straight and narrow and Westwood will have to start Friday in the black.

Lee Westwood splashes out solidly from the greenside bunker, leaving himself with eight feet to make par and stay level for the first round.

Justin Rose, who never got going after a torrid start, holes out for a four-over first round. The third member of their three-ball, Ernie Els, is done and dusted for three over.

  16. Mickelson finishes +4published at 00:18 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Phil Mickelson misses his birdie putt, plenty to do on his return journey, but it is a non-stopper straight to the bottom of cup. All done at four over.

    BBC Radio 5 live summariser

"Phil Mickelson will be extremely frustrated because he has played 16 holes well and two horrendously. He has knocked himself out of the tournament in my mind. You have to take the positives and there were a lot of positives to take.

"He will try and fight his way back but very soon he will start looking toward the US Open, that is the one thing missing from his resume."

Lee Westwood is heading to the last on level par. Up ahead Phil Mickelson has a chance to check out with a birdie. If he makes it, he will be sleeping a little easier on three over overnight.
