So, as you can read in Rob Hodgetts' report from Augusta, we are left with a Masters weekend without either Phil Mickelson or Tiger Woods for the first time since 1994.

Still there is plenty of heft in a match-up between Adam Scott and Bubba Watson come Sunday sundown.

We will be back here from early tomorrow afternoon to take you all through it all.

Now get yourself to bed, we'll need fresh minds and lively fingers to keep the good stuff coming over the next two days.

    Bye for now.

Paul Hayward in the Daily Telegraph, external writes on Bubba Watson that 'anyone who fails to be astonished by his shot-making is watching the wrong sport. Every time he swings a club a coaching manual becomes confetti.'

ESPN, external takes a great look at the passion for golf of Jordan Speith and how as a child he used to pretend he was winning a major championship.

And the official Masters website, external points out the impressive recovery of Branden Grace, who improved on Thursday's round by 15 strokes. The most contrasting start in Masters history belongs to Craig Wood, who started 88-67 (21 strokes better) in 1936.

Defending champion Adam Scott recovered from dropping three shots in his opening five holes to finish where he started on three under.

He said: "The course was so difficult early on, it was difficult to hit putts confidently, everything was so firm on the greens. I didn't play well early on. It was one of the tougher days, only Friday in 2007 was tougher.

"I'm happy with how I finished, to be within shouting distance but I'm going to need to hit the ball better if I'm going to make a move up the leaderboard."

Bubba Watson may have a three-stroke lead at present, but the biggest lead in Masters history after 36 holes is five shots and in those instances all three players went onto win the title.

Those to be successful were Herman Keiser (1946), Jack Nicklaus (1975) and Raymond Floyd (1976). The biggest comeback to win the Masters after 36 holes was Jack Burke, who made up eight strokes to capture the title in 1956.

Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter will have to rewrite that last bit of history if they are to land a first Masters title.

Rory McIlroy then has no margin for error on the par-four last. A bogey will send him packing. His second shot is sat on the top of a treacherous downhill slope, 25 feet from the hole. It will need a feather touch and careful read to put it close.

Here's Welshman Jamie Donaldson after reaching halfway in one under par: "I spent an hour hitting balls on the range [after Thursday's round] and didn't gain anything and then didn't drive much better today.

"I was in the pine straw a lot but I'm getting used to playing out of that now.

"I'm in a good position. I've got to try and hit more fairways to give myself better chances. It is as simple as that."

Oliver Goss is the only amateur to make the weekend after finishing on three over for his opening two rounds. The Australian hit a one-under-par 71 on Friday.

Goss, who was born in Surrey, was beaten in last year's US Amateur final by England's 19-year-old Matthew Fitzpatrick - the win that secured the Sheffield youngster's card for this week.

Fitzpatrick, who started the second round on four over, posted a one-over 73 - one shot the wrong side of the cut mark.
