Adam Scott on the 12th tee and he has plonked that one right in front of the pin. Lovely.

Jamie Donaldson makes a decent attempt to salvage an almost impossible position on 13, but he cannot slam the brakes on in time with his chip and his par part veers wide of the hole. He drops back to one under.

Been chatting to Paul Azinger, the former US Ryder Cup captain and BBC commentator for this week.

He's extremely articulate and listening to him talk about golf and the Masters makes your spine tingle. More to come tomorrow, but here's a taster. We're discussing the mental side of the game.

"If you really get down to the brass tacks of it all, a golf swing takes about a second and a half. If you shoot 70, that's little more than a minute and a half of actual motion. The rest of it is just thought. Six full minutes in four days can make your head explode."

Ian Poulter on the 16th tee, it is high and handsome, touching down and drawn, as if be subterranean magnets towards the cup. Stops just shot, but that will be a chance to move from three over to two over.

Rory McIlroy is in a world of trouble here. Out the back of the tenth green, he has to chip out off the dirt and through a corridor of spectators. A scruffy old connection dribbles only to the edge of the dancefloor. His fourth shot puts him to within ten feet, but it is a bogey at best.

What is going on with the defending champion Adam Scott and the game's second most marketable man Rory McIlroy, I hear you ask.

Well, we haven't been neglecting them, they just have not done much of note.

McIlroy pars the ninth after missing a tricky birdie half-chance to reach the turn one over for the day, and level par overall.

Scott is also halfway through his round, but only has three bogies, at the first, fourth and fifth, to show for it. Level par overall.

  17. Haas to level parpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Bill Haas is feeling the burn round the turn. A double bogey at the par-four 11 takes him out to even par - seven shots behind the regal Bubba Watson at the top of the charts.

Sweden's Jonas Blixt, who sits three under: "I drove the ball maybe a little better today. The irons feel good and the putting is good.

"The majors give your short game the best test. The greens are really fast. It's a grind out there, you have to use your imagination.

"It's a completely new feeling, different, and I'm doing my best."

With plenty of players still out there we have passed yesterday's tally of birdies. There are 257 on the board compared to 250 when play was finished yesterday.

The course playing easier? The players wising up to its challenges? A little of both?

  20. Donaldson up to -2published at 21:37 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Jamie Donaldson, born in Pontypridd, resident in Florida, is right in the mix for this one. The 38-year-old birdies the ninth and is up to two under par.
