    Par five, 530 yards

Another par five that is reachable in two when the wind is favourable. Having said that, the second shot must still carry over both a pond and the bunker that guards the green on the right. The 15th is the scene of Gene Sarazen's "shot heard round the world", a holed approach from 235 yards for an albatross on the way to the 1935 title.

No doubt Bubba Watson has become a cult figure here at Augusta, especially in the absence this weekend of both Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

The homespun hero from a working-class background in Baghdad, Florida, seems to appeal to the man in the street.

But he showed a less loveable side on Friday, when talking about the burden of being the 2012 Masters champion.

"Yellow flags, I've seen enough of those," he said. "I really don't want to sign too many more of those yellow flags. I think I've signed every single one since 2012."

Jonas Blixt with a birdie putt on the 14th, not in but not bad, certainly good enough for a straightforward tap-in for his par. Back on the tee Bubba Watson cranks another big drive down the middle, splitting the fairway perfectly in two.

Still 15 players within six of the lead. Tight and tidy at the top.

Rachael: Since I've put 50p on Jonas Blixt, he has ended up in two water hazards. I now feel it's all my fault if he doesn't win.

  5. Senden back to -2published at 22:51 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

John Senden, second overnight, has been rocking and rolling, but he pulls back a birdie on 13 to move to two under.

Very different atmosphere down in Amen Corner from early this morning. The grandstand behind the 12th tee is packed, the rows of green folding chairs are full and patrons pack the bank. Conversation is more raucous, laughs louder. Cigar smoke wafts across the breeze. Beers are clutched everywhere. The greeting for Bubba is boisterous.

    Par four, 440 yards

The only bunkerless hole on the course, but danger comes in the shape of a contoured green. If the drive is well-placed, then a mid-iron approach may be all that is needed. However, the significant left-to-right drop of the putting surface can lead to three putts, even from close range.

Bubba Watson lining up a putt for birdie on 13, never going to break for him though. His monster drive is wasted as he takes three putting prods to hide the pill on the par five. He stays on six under.

There is nobody on this leaderboard that I see as temperamentally weak. You cannot win here if you are.

  12. Bjorn back to -4published at 22:43 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

Beep! Beep! Warning! This chasing pack is reversing. Thomas Bjorn is also unable to salvage par from his visit to the drink on 13 and he falls back to four under. That means Bubba Watson has a two-shot lead on the rest. Jordan Spieth looks like the man on an upward curve, but his progress might be checked as he sends his tee shot onto the pine straw out right on 15.

  13. Spieth to -4, Blixt to -3published at 22:39 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

Jordan Spieth birdies 15 to move on up to -4 and Jonas Blixt drops down below him as his aquatic adventure on 13 ends in a bogey.

  14. Kuchar into clubhouse lead at -4published at 22:38 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

Matt Kuchar rams a long-range par putt right down the throat of the 18th hole. It really was going quite a lick though and the ball is vomitted back out onto the green. A shot gone, but he is still the leader back in the 19th.

  15. Furyk to -3published at 22:36 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

Jim Furyk drops a shot as he par putt treads water around the 16th hole, determined not to drop.

    BBC Sport commentator

"If you can draw the ball off the tee you have an advantage around Augusta. There are 11 holes here that require a draw but only three that need a fade."

Drawing the ball (right to left shape) for right-handers is considered harder than fading (left-right), perhaps an explanation why left-handers have such a good record at the Masters with five of the past 11 wins going to 'lefties'.

  17. Postpublished at 22:34 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

Bubba Watson slaps-shots off the tee at 13 and the ball disappears over the horizon and far away. Looking good. Meanwhile Jordan Spieth has hit it close on 14 and will have a good birdie chance from within 10 feet.

Jonas Blixt dumps his second shot straight in the little weir that runs across the 13th fairway and Thomas Bjorn learns no lessons following the Swede straight in.

  19. Augusta course guidepublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 12 April 2014

    Par five, 510 yards

Reachable in two, but those who fall short run the risk of slipping into the water at the front of the green. Go long, and four bunkers wait behind. The putting surface is four-tiered and having to three-putt is a real danger. It was from the trees and pine straw on the right of the fairway that Phil Mickelson produced a moment of magic on the way to the Green Jacket in 2010.

Bubba Watson cradles his head in his hands. Not a disaster, he is off the 12th green with a par in in his pocket, but that was a chance to plumb up the cushion separating him from the rest of the field.
