Miguel Angel Jimenez is home and hosed at 71 for a four under par campaign. Playing partner Rickie Fowler finishes a couple of shots further back and there is a nice bit of bromance between the two as they share a sweaty bear hug on the final green.

Former United States president Dwight Eisenhower used to hit into a loblolly pine placed on the left of the fairway so often that he unsuccessfully campaigned to have it cut down. It was eventually removed earlier this year after an ice storm caused major damage. An uphill hole, with a challenging green that slopes off in all directions.

  3. Watson -8, Spieth & Blixt -5published at 23:26 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Jordan Spieth runs it close, but close doesn't cut it anymore. He takes a baseball swipe at thin air in frustration. Bubba Watson almost lands what would be a knockout blow as his own birdie attempt runs right up and almost in. Pars for the pair and just two holes to go...

  4. Watson -8, Spieth and Blixt -5published at 23:23 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Bubba Watson looks briefly concerned as he peers after his tee shot on 16. No need to worry, that is right where he would want it, landing and breaking left with the slope to within ten feet.

Jordan Spieth is also exasperated, but with a little more reason. His shot leaves him with 15 feet to putt for a birdie.

Fred Couples after his 75, for a +2 72-hole total, the former champion undone by a double-bogey at 15: "It was rough finish. After 15 all hell broke loose and I was trying so hard. This golf course, when you hit bad shots, will penalise you.

  10. Watson -8, Spieth & Blixt -5published at 23:18 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Jordan Spieth's birdie putt runs on a rail, refusing to drift as its owner hoped. It stays north, missing to the right and he has a par. Watson's final stroke on the hole is a bit of a wobbly one but it drops. After the rollercoaster on the front nine with birdies and bogies aplenty in a fluctuating dogfight, this is more of a grind.

"Bubba was always thinking par when he hit his tee shot where he did."

  12. Watson -8, Spieth and Blixt -5published at 23:14 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Jordan Spieth tickles a little chip over a greenside bunker and to within 10 feet. Bubba Watson's third is a tricky one with a steep downhill slope beyond the pin threatening to carry his ball down and away if he gets too ambitious. He plays it ultra-safe, barely getting it on the fringe.

  13. Poulter says green jacket will be his one daypublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

More from Ian Poulter, the man who stared down the camera at the 2010 Ryder Cup before his singles match against Matt Kuchar and said 'I will win.' He did, and so did Europe.

He said on Twitter:, external I love The Masters more than any other event. I will win a green jacket one day. Never say never. And give 100%. No regrets.

Leading the Masters by three, four holes to play, you might play it conservative. Lay up and play the percentages. But you are not Bubba Watson. He yanks an iron through the branches of the pine in front of him, clears the water and rolls it just through the back of the green.

  16. Postpublished at 23:07 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Bubba Watson has a bit of orienteering to do here. A face full of pine on 15 with his second shot at his feet. He might have a line through the middle of the bower in front of him, or if he needs to bend one he can do that too.

  17. Postpublished at 23:03 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Jonas Blixt putting for birdie on 15, this to put him within two shots of the leader. The momentum dies and the ball veers though. A chance gone.

Another par five that is reachable in two when the wind is favourable. Having said that, the second shot must still carry over both a pond and the bunker that guards the green on the right. The 15th is the scene of Gene Sarazen's "shot heard round the world", a holed approach from 235 yards for an albatross on the way to the 1935 title.

Miguel Angel Jimenez is coming up on the rails. a birdie on 16 carries him up to four under. That is three in his last five holes, but it is going to need an accompanying implosion to get him really into contention.
