The Big Easy rolling back the years on the seventh. Ernie Els, the two-time US Open champion, and winner here at Oakmont in 1994, holes his second birdie of the round, from 12 feet, and the 46-year-old is two under after playing his other five holes in par. He couldn't. Could he?

Your thoughts on the US Open. Who is going to win?

Andrew Neill: Fabulous play by Westwood in difficult circumstances. He will want to be straight back out there the way he's played.

Chris Latchem: Outstanding from leader Andrew Landry to card -4 in his first round at the US Open. Birdied final hole, the ninth.

John McEnerney: Tasty three. Phil, Rose & Henrik all three have the game for Oakmont. Lefty's obsession may be his undoing again, would love to see Henrik win it.

We mentioned that Henrik Stenson had left himself a birdie chance on the par-four 15th, well he made it to move back to level par after an earlier blemish on the 12th.

Justin Rose was unable to get up and down from the greenside bunker but Phil Mickelson made par with an excellent chip and putt so all three are level through six holes. A steady start from the three superstars.

  4. No flower power for Horschelpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 17 June 2016

American Billy Horschel, wearing some hideous flower-covered trousers, has not had the best of starts. His round started at the 10th, but he has just registered a bogey at the 17th, after earlier ones at the 10th, 11th and 16th, although he did birdie the 12th and he is on three over.

Angel Cabrera dropped a shot at the sixth, and the 2007 winner is in trouble at the next as well, having to hack his way out of the deep rough with his second attempt on the par-four seventh.

Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson are all on the 15th, which, remember, is their sixth hole of the day.

Oohs and aahs from the American fans as Mickelson ends up in the first cut of rough with his ball nestled against the collar of the second cut with his second shot, before Rose does even worse and finds the sand. Stenson though is near perfect, leaving a three foot attempt for a birdie.

  9. The historypublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 17 June 2016

So who is going to win this year's US Open? Well, it is not exactly an easy competition to predict.

Over the last 14 years, there have been 13 different winners with Tiger Woods the only man to win the tournament twice in that time.

Argentina's Angel Cabrera is the last man to win the US Open at Oakmont, with his success in 2007. But he has just dropped his first shot of the day on the sixth, as he is unsuccessful with a 10 foot attempt for par. He had started his round with five pars.

  11. Piercy wastes chance for share of leadpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 17 June 2016

Thanks Alan. Hello everyone. Hope you're all comfortable as we have a lot of golf to be getting through this afternoon and this evening, weather permitting of course.

American Scott Piercy has a chance to join Andrew Landry in a share of the lead but his birdie attempt on the ninth is well short to leave him on three-under, one behind our surprise leader.

Right, that's more than enough from me. Ready to begin a long old stint and keep you company until the sun goes down in Pennsylvania is Michael Emons.

Justin Rose doesn't give his birdie putt on 14 enough juice and he stays one under.

From closer in, Phil Mickelson does the same. It never had a chance of reaching the hole. The American remains level.

Messrs Rose, Mickelson and Stenson all find the fairway on the 331-yard par-four 14th, giving themselves a real shot at setting up a birdie opportunity.

Rose is unimpressed as a wedge lands 20 feet from the hole, Swede Stenson is a long way away at the back of the green as he struggles to control from out of a divot. Better from Phil though who leaves himself within 10 feet for a birdie.

  15. Casey's putting miserypublished at 15:53

Englishman Paul Casey finished with a five-over 75 and has no doubt where his round went wrong...

  16. Birdie for Rosepublished at 15:50

After missing from shortish distance for birdie on 12, Justin Rose drains a curling putt from long range on the par-three 13th (his fourth) to move to one under.

Justin Rose's birdie putt on the 12th - his third - is just too high and stays out. A par for the 2013 champion who is level.

Phil Mickleson smoothly knocks in from six feet to stay level at the same hole.

  19. Mud, mud, glorious mudpublished at 15:37

This is why spectators weren't allowed in until 30 minutes after play started today. Gloopy conditions underfoot.

Yesterday's drenching has slowed the greens but they still pretty slick to me.

  20. What a shot!published at 15:34

Lovely wedge from Justin Rose on his third - the 12th - which flirts with disappearing into the hole.

It spins back to about six feet and the Englishman has a chance to move to one under.
