  1. Westwood finishes at three underpublished at 13:56

Lee Westwood rolls in his birdie putt on his final hole - the ninth - and that's a superb opening 67 for the 43-year-old Englishman.

He's one off leader Andrew Landry and looks to be recapturing the form that took him to world number one a few years ago.

Lee Westwood into his final hole - the ninth - brilliant, right at the pin and he has less than 10 feet left for a round of 67.

McIlroy (pictured) can't make his par putt and he's now six over with one to play. It's early days and a lot can and will happen in a US Open but 10 shots is a long way back.

Jordan Spieth is two over after just missing a birdie putt on the eighth - his 17th.

  3. More trouble for McIlroypublished at 13:45

From bad to worse for Rory - his bunker shot goes across the green and into more sand straight opposite him.

He's out of that trap but now has 20 feet left to avoid falling to six over.

Masters champion Danny Willett - on four over - is also struggling on the driveable par-three 17th. After finding the thick stuff with his tee shot, he has hacked out but is still short of the green.

A glimpse of blue sky at Oakmont but it's still rather gloomy.

  4. Postpublished at 13:38

A couple more 69s with American amateur Scottie Scheffler and Kevin Streelman completing their rounds.

Rory McIlroy has just taken a cut at the green on the 307-yard par-four 17th but has found the bunker to the left of the putting surface.

He really could do with picking up a shot here.

  5. Watson in at one underpublished at 13:34.

Bubba Watson squeezes in a par putt on 18 for a one-under round of 69.

You wouldn't think a US Open course would suit Bubba but that's an excellent start for the American.

  6. Westwood alone in second after birdiepublished at 13:30

Brilliant from Lee Westwood who birdies the par-three eighth - his 17th - from 10 feet to move to two under par and second place on his own.

It's getting worse for Rory McIlroy, though, who bogeys 16 to fall to five over.

A superb par putt from 20 feet from Shane Lowry on 15 to stay tied second on one under.

  7. Latest scorespublished at 13:24

So what's happened in the early play on day two?

We've already mentioned leader Andrew Landry at four under he now leads by three as Danny Lee has bogeyed 16 to be one under.

There are seven players tied at that score including Lee Westwood (who has two holes to play), Ireland's Shane Lowry (after 14) and two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson.

Scotland's Russell Knox is level par (after 16), as is England's Lee Slattery (after 10), with England's Matt Fitzpatrick two over with two to play.

Rory McIlroy has dropped another shot to fall to four over after 15, alongside playing partner Danny Willett.

Jordan Spieth dropped one but has just birdied the sixth - his 15th - to go back to one over.

  9. A long wait for the spectatorspublished at 13:14

It's has been an eerie scene at Oakmont this morning because although the players were on the saturated course from 12:30 BST, spectators were not initially allowed in.

The USGA said that heavy rain - including 1.1 inches that fell overnight - meant "several passageways and parking lots were impassable".

The image above shows how bad it was with floodwater running between the 12th and 13th holes on Thursday.

The good news is that they have just opened the gates.

  10. Landry sets Oakmont US Open recordpublished at 13:09

When play was finally halted at 21:34 BST on Thursday, American world number 624 Andrew Landry (pictured) was leading on three under after 17 holes.

Two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson was joint second on two under, with England's Lee Westwood one under.

Rory McIlroy was three over par after 12 and Jordan Spieth one over after 11.

Play resumed at Oakmont just over half an hour ago and Landry's long wait to play his final hole - the ninth - didn't affect him. He birdied it for a four-under 66, the lowest opening round in a US Open at Oakmont.

He leads by two from New Zealander Danny Lee.

  11. 13 hours of golf aheadpublished at 13:04

With only nine players completing their first rounds because of the three weather suspensions, there is a serious amount of catching up to do in Pennsylvania.

We already know round two will not be completed today but there will be plenty of action until the sun goes down at around 02:00 BST.

So that's potentially 13 hours of golf still to come!
