  1. Sordet pays tribute to Nice familiespublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    BBC Radio 5 Live

France's Clement Sordet, said he had been thinking about the people in his home city of Nice following the attacks on Thursday evening.

Sordet, who said he lives 500m from where the attack took place, carded a 75 to finish on eight over par.

"It's a very sad situation. I feel really bad for all those who died and all the families," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I pray for the people who died and want to support the country.

"I woke up at 4am and that was the first thing I saw. Most of my friends and family, I know they’re safe – but for some people I don’t know.

"I tried not to think about it and play my game. It's very sad."

    Rose -3 (14:04 BST)

    Justin RoseImage source, AP

Justin Rose was thorough in his preparation for this Open Championship and arrived on Monday to start his practice.

It paid off on day one as though he needed 32 putts - nearly two a hole - he was super off the tee and fairways to get close consistently. A haul of three under was his reward.

"I played really well today all in all so the score didn't quite reflect how well I played, but I'm certainly happy with the start," said the 2013 US Open winner. "It's definitely the best I've played for a while."

Rose gets underway on day two at 14:04 BST alongside Jordan Spieth (E) and Shane Lowry (+7).

  4. DJ back on trackpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Johnson -2, Kaymer -3, Knox E

Dustin Johnson finishes his second round in the red.

A par on the 18th sees the world number two end on two-under after three consecutive birdies on the back nine.

Double bogeys on the seventh and 11th stopped it from being a truly great round, but he has put himself back on track.

Martin Kaymer finishes a shot ahead of his playing partner on three-under.

The German failed to continue his stunning form from round one that saw him tied for second overnight and he carded a two-over 73.

Scotland's Russell Knox ended round two one-under, level par for the tournament.

    Garcia -4 (15)

Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are just clipping balls and making them sing on the range. It's quite beautiful to see their swings operate with the efficiency of a Swiss watch.

Sergio Garcia has been in this game a long, long time but can't boast the majors of these two young bucks. Sergio is trying but can't get to five under as his putt on 15 comes up short.

  6. 'I have never felt better'published at 13:41 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Mickelson -10 (18)

Phil Mickelson, 46, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "If I look back to my mid 30s, I am 35lbs lighter, in better shape than I was and can manage the symptoms of my psoriatic arthritis. I feel stronger and in a better condition than I have ever been.

"I can't see why I can't play my best golf in the coming years. I am optimistic about this week and the coming years and the opportunities to add to my resume.

"I enjoy these adverse conditions, it is challenging. I have developed a tee shot with my two-iron that keeps it low and away from the elements, that gives me a stress free tee shot.

"It was disappointing not to get the 62 yesterday, but the opportunity to try and win another claret jug is also exciting"

    Kaymer -3 (17), Z Johnson -6 (16), Stenson -9 (16)

Martin Kaymer waggles his backside like Donald Duck on the dance floor as he sets himself to find the green on 18. It's not spectacular, much like his back nine generally. The German has let four shots go on the back stretch.

Back on 17 Zach Johnson is enjoying himself in the sand, flopping to within a beach towel of the pin and that should set him for par.

Henrik Stenson is now within a blow of the lead, he's looking to hole out from off the green but runs his effort five feet past.

    Harrington -1

Padraig Harrington is off on the first, though the sky doesn't look like this today.

Harrington has won this event twice and at one under, probably still has a small hope this weekend. I'm not too sure how he ended under par yesterday with fairly average stats.

He hit only 50% of greens in regulation and took 27 putts.

Still, he's a grinder. He'll probably love these conditions. He was clicking his heels when he opened the curtains today and doing a rain dance.

  9. Grace comes up short...justpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Grace -1 (1)

Branden Grace probably thought he had the perfect start.

A long putt from just in front of the green looked like it was in for a birdie, but the ball refused to drop in and sat dangling over the edge of the hole.

The South African walked around the ball encouraging it to go in, but in the end he had to putt it and settle for a par.

    Agonising.

  10. Birdie!published at 13:29 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Stenson -9 (16), Johnson -6 (16)

Zach Johnson. Hang your head in shame sir. No Open champion should chip a ball that badly. Johnson is up off the stroke too quickly and just bumps it sloppily. He's now left 25ft for birdie and races the putt past the flag, 10ft for par now. What a mess Zachary, what a mess.

Henrik Stenson on the same 16th hole will have a birdie look after a sublime approach from the sand looks to go into the hole, misses narrowly but presents an chance now.

Back to Johnson, he converts for par. Credit to him, good bottle. To Stenson, practice stroke, plants the putter head, in she goes. One behind the leader.

  12. DJ making a movepublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Johnson -2 (17)

Make that three birdies in a row for Dustin Johnson.

More red at the 17th and that puts the 32-year-old on two-under par with one to play.

Form coming at the right time.

  13. Mickelson's Troon lowpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Mickelson -10 (18)

He couldn't quite make 130 blows, a mark Nick Faldo and Brandt Snedeker have achieved after 36 Open holes.

  14. Postpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Johnson -6 (15), Knox E (17)

Zach Johnson with a big draw up the 16th fairway, he needs to get back to seven under having spent much of the day there. This ball is moving right to left, it's a par five and Johnson doesn't have the muscle to get home in two. Position A though around 30ft short of the green. He will give himself a birdie chance from there.

What about Russell Knox on 17? Par putt slides and it's back to level for the tournament. Knox is one of those Brits you see hanging around PGA Tour leaderboards but it's not yet got out of second gear for him this week yet.

    Reed -5 (1), Grace -1 (1)

So there's your card marked for the coming hours. My colleague Alex is heading for his lunch so I'll try to call things for a while.

As I start, Branden Grace is fuming with life as he sees a chip bounce off the flag stick on one. He will stay at one under and Patrick Reed alongside him sees a putt wiggle its way wide of the hole, par it will be.

  18. The big names get going after 2pmpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

The likes of world number one Jason Day (+2) and Jordan Spieth (level) have a lot of ground to make when they get under way this afternoon.

Justin Rose is well placed on three under and Rory McIlroy on two under.

But will the weather hinder their chances of closing the gap on the leaders?

    Here are their start times:

14:04 Jordan Spieth (US), Justin Rose (Eng), Shane Lowry (Ire)

14:15 Ross Fisher (Eng), Steve Stricker (US), Vijay Singh (Fij)

14:26 Danny Willett (Eng), Rickie Fowler (US), Jason Day (Aus)

14:37 Rory McIlroy (NI), Hideki Matsuyama (Jpn), Bubba Watson (US)

    Z Johnson -6 (15)

With Lefty safely back in the clubhouse, Zach Johnson fails to make any ground.

The defending champion posts his third bogey on Friday, leaving him four shots off the lead now with three to play in this second round.
