Phil Blyghton: One of the greatest duels in major championship history! Incredible golf from both players.

Gareth: Ipad at 17%. Will it past? I'm more nervous than Mickelson or Stenson.

Damian Fogarty: About to fly so will miss the end to the heavyweight Stenson-Mickelson fight. Can someone call flight UA532 with result? Cheers.

jamie brannon: I can't recall ever watching an Open climax that has become a head-to-head duel between two players. Excluding playoffs, of course.

  2. 'I am happy with my form'published at 17:18 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

McIlroy -4 (18) Tied for fifth

Rory McIlroy, speaking to Radio 5 live said: "67 is a good score out there, yes I missed a few chances but I made a few and birdied a few holes that are playing hard today.

"Anything in the 60s today is good in those conditions.  I knew I needed something to get up the leaderboard.

"I am proud of the way I have played this week considering what I have had to deal with in the conditions. I am disappointed with how I played yesterday. Overall it has been a decent week and I will take positives going into the PGA.

"I don't feel like I am that far away, my results are not bad. My form has been decent and it is just a matter of being able to get myself into contention more often. Hopefully I will be able to do that next week."

  3. How you pick a winnerpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

I'm picking Phil Mickelson because not only did he star in Tin Cup...

Tin Cup film posterImage source, .

But he also featured in a brilliant episode of Entourage. If you've not seen it, he turns up to coach a gent playing against film agent Ari Gold (left). Gold is furious and not everyone returns from the friendly round of golf. Lefty delivers his dialogue with panache.

  4. What a putt!published at 17:16 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Stenson -16 (12), Mickelson -16 (12)

This is just getting better and better. What guts from Phil Mickelson, what character, what class.

He digs a second shot from the long grass but has 20-25ft for par and knows Henrik Stenson will make his par. Up a small slope, down the other side, a shade of break from the left, it's in and the fist pump is out.

    Big. Very big.

  5. Sunday best?published at 17:16 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Holmes -7 (14)

Outside of the leaders, JB Holmes is enjoying one of Sunday's best rounds. He's three under through 14 and is yet to drop a shot today, taking him to -7 for the tournament, third place and two strokes clear of fourth.

Lee Westwood and Jordan Spieth are the two to finish on three under for the day, only Rory McIlroy (-4) is back in the clubhouse in less.

  7. A decisive moment?published at 17:09 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Stenson -16 (11), Mickelson -16 (11)

To the 12th, another hole playing above par on average this week. This is a cruel run of holes and after surviving 11, Phil Mickelson needs to find answers. His tee shot is rough bound - long grass. His second is to more long grass and we could be witnessing a key moment right here. Will this be where the 145th Open Championship was decided?

Henrik Stenson knows he has a chance here. His swing is rapid, his back heel explodes up off the floor to aid follow through. This is heading for the green but how close? I'd say 20ft.

A lot closer than Lefty who suddenly looks tired and the long grass will only serve to fatigue him even more.

  8. Hatton climbingpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Hatton -4 (16)

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton has quietly climbed into the top five at Royal Troon.

He's left with a 20-foot plus putt for birdie on the 16th. It goes left, almost rounds the hole and then drops in to take the 24-year-old to four under.

70, 71, 71, so far for Hatton - will this be his best round of the week? He's now up alongside Beef and Rory McIlroy.

  10. Bogey for Beefpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Johnston -4 (12)

Well, it's been a fantastic week for Andrew Johnston but you get the feeling his time at Troon is veering past its peak.

With the leaders flying, Beef drops another shot that puts him 13 behind back in tied fifth position.

He had an outside chance at a birdie on the 12th, but doesn't hit it and leave a 15-foot putt some way short.

Johnston misses that too, clipping the cup, and it's a bogey for the Londoner.

Tom Morris was 46 years and 99 days when he won the Open at Prestwick in 1867.

Mickelson is 46 years and 31 days old.

    Stenson -16 (11), Mickelson -16 (11)

Phil Mickelson will putt from the back of the green, up a slope and onto the dance floor. It slides along like a young child on his knees at a wedding but starts toppling right, away from the cup. He will have to tidy up from two feet and does so, that's a valiant par on the hardest hole out there.

The entourage watches on from back on the fairway as Henrik Stenson studies his eight footer. He's like a lab scientist glaring at a bubbling beaker. Time to fire up the Bunsen burner Henrik. He strikes, it rolls and lips out.

We are back to level boards ladies and gents.

Anyone would think these two were serving up a classic...

In nobody's wildest dreams was it as good as this. Both men probably thought beforehand: 'If I'm five under after 10, I'll be over the hill and far away.' No such luck. For them...

  15. Postpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Stenson -17 (10), Mickelson -16 (10)

Henrik Stenson on 11, he will have to hit five iron from the fairway on this gnarly hole.

Clean strike but this hole is 482 yards, so you better have washed your Weetabix down with protein shake this morning. The line is superb, the yardage a little shy and he'll have 50ft for birdie.

"Oh come on," says Phil Mickelson with his ball in full flight. It's close to the pin but trickles off the back. I'd say it's deuce between the pair on this one.

They are quite literally going at this inch for inch.

  16. 'It's got to move'published at 16:55 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Johnston -5 (11)

"Come on," says Johnston. "It's got to move," the 27-year-old urges his tee shot on to the fairway - he's hit just over half of his fairways today.

You can hear the calls of 'Beeeeef' echoing around Troon as he approaches his ball, just under 150 yards from flag.

It's a nice approach from Beef, but doesn't quite catch the run of the green and spins back away from the pin.

elliott gilmore: From the final pair, this is just the best golf I have seen in years. The Open absolute tribute to the Claret Jug.

Tom Dodd:Real shame that there will be a 'loser' from this final pairing. Mickelson and Stenson have lapped the field this week.

For someone to be 17 and 16-under, the next best is seven-under. These guys have thrown conventional scoring out of the window. They are playing spectacular golf.

It is noticeable that, in three rounds so far, the three leaders - Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson and Bill Haas - have so far had just one bogey (and eight pars) between them.

  20. Par for Johnstonpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Johnston -5 (11)

A train rattles past as Andrew Johnston is in mid swing at the tee box on the 11th, but Beef doesn't even flinch.

He pings his tee shot up to the left of the green, chips on and then makes par at the Railway.
