    Stricker -7 Holmes -6 (16)

In the best of the rest, Steve Stricker currently holds a one-shot lead over JB Holmes.

The American has only dropped shots on five holes this week, but one of those was a quadruple bogey at the 15th on Friday.

He's got a clean card through Sunday though, and has just added another birdie to the three collected en route to the 16th. That sends the 49-year-old seven under for the round.

Holmes responds to his double bogey on the 15th by also notching a birdie at the 16th. He's at six under.

Talk about an unlikely putt to make it, but he was already walking. It didn't get there with a lot of speed but he knew if it got there it was going in, an incredible putt.

That was an unexpected blow to Phil Mickelson by Henrik Stenson.

    Wow.

The moments which will define our winner have been tough to pick out as they constantly keep touch with one another, outdoing what we think they are capable of time and time again. We are forced to wait and wait for the telling second where history is written.

This my friends could be it.

Henrik Stenson is roughly 40ft from the cup, putting from the fringe and desperate to get this done in two. He sends it, the galleries watch on and Stenson is walking after his ball. All that breaks his stride is the most animated of fist pumps. It's in. A putt from the heavens, it stayed on the lip briefly and dropped.

That was it wasn't it? The moment. He leads by two.

Mickelson didn't have to leave the door open ajar for Stenson to get his foot in. Advantage Henrik heading down the 15th and it suddenly feels like those mobbed Opens of old that you see on TV.

Thick galleries snaking around the outside and grandstands throbbing. What's more, the sun is even shining.

Another big test for these two front runners - rivals for a day they've battered one another, I'm tired just watching.

The par-four 15th has averaged 4.4 shots this week so it's out there to hurt you. Henrik Stenson is on the fringes of the green with a little work to do, Phil Mickelson is better placed but there's a good 25ft to the cup.

What is going through the minds here? It's fascinating.

    Johnston -3 Haas -2 (15)

Andrew Johnston escapes the deep rough he found from the tee, but once on the green he can't make it down in par.

Putting up the hill about eight feet from the pin, the 27-year-old never finds the line and has to settle for a fifth bogey of the day.

He's two over for the round through 15. Playing partner Bill Haas is four over for the day and at two under for the championship.

At the age of 40 years, 3 months, 12 days Stenson would become the oldest first-time major winner since Darren Clarke won The Open Championship in 2011 at the age of 42.

The oldest first time major winner of all time is Jerry Barber, who won the 1961 PGA Championship for his only major title, doing so at 45 years, 3 months of age.

The on course staff call for quiet as Henrik Stenson lines up a crucial putt on the par-three 14th with Phil Mickelson already in the cup for three.

This putt would edge the Swede ahead once more but it's an outside chance from 15ft or so. A clean strike, he's been making contacts to dream of all day on the green, is it good enough? Yes it is. We have an outright leader and this is gripping.

    Holmes -5 (15)

Well JB Holmes was ticking along nicely today but his round has unraveled somewhat at the 15th.

The American goes out of bounds with his first shot and then lands one on the path. He's struggled with this hole all week, carding bogey, double bogey, bogey.

It's another double bogey on Sunday, his first dropped shots of the final round, and he's probably relieved to get out of there with that.

    Garcia -4 (16)

"Go, go, go, go, GO," shouts Sergio Garcia, getting louder with each repetition.

He's on four under and chasing a higher place and more money in this tournament. His ball listens, landing 20ft short of the pin on 17.

Did you know? Phil Mickelson plays golf left handed but is right handed generally.

As a child he had a large practice area in his back garden as his dad loved a game too.

    Johnston -4 (14)

Beef finds the green with his tee shot at the par-three 14th. He can't make birdie though, a long putt from about 25 feet or so stopping half a dozen feet from the pin.

Johnston converts to make par. Just four holes to go for the Spanish Open winner and his band of new followers will be with him right up until the finish.

    Mickelson -16, Stenson -16 (12)

"I don't think I have to take anything off it with this uphill lie," says Phil Mickelson to his caddie. He goes full swing and lands on the green with an outside birdie chance. Henrik Stenson will have a tougher job in getting up and down from the fringe.

The first putt leads to a lady screaming in anticipation from the crowd, her nerves seem to be completely gone as she becomes more high pitched as the ball stops a fraction short of the cup. Mickelson is also a tad off the mark but both men could blow those balls into the cup from there. On we go. I can't stress how competitive this is. Proper sport.

  18. Top week for Hattonpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 17 July 2016

    Hatton -4 (18)

A fantastic final round from Tyrrell Hatton sees him finish at four under having never previously made the cut at the Open Championship.

And he's currently in the top five at Royal Troon, Sunday's 68 bettering the 70, 71, 71 the 24-year-old posted earlier in the week.

Steve Stricker is a master putter and drops a lovely 25 footer in to reach six under. He's alongside JB Holmes and both are three under today and clearly thriving in one another's company.

The champion has been dethroned as Zach Johnson ends his tournament one under. He watches on as Miguel Angel Jimenez gets the crowd pumped on 18 with a birdie putt.

Jimenez would make anyone smile, even Jim Furyk.
