The best of the 20 club pros today was Rob Labritz, of GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, New York. He carded a one-over 71. Martin in with a 66, he's one off leader Jimmy Walker, in a three-way tie for second. That's a tremendous round, it hasn't been easy for the late starters.

    -2 Stenson (15)

Henrik Stenson is ticking along nicely. A 17ft putt is no problem for the Swede and he birdies the 15th to move to two-under.

Spieth in trouble off the tee again and he's having to lay up on the par-five 17th. Great up and down from Kaymer at eight, saves par to stay four under and one off the lead. Rose with a peach of a bunker escape on 16, will stay level. Beef still being hassled by autograph hunters, he copes with it better than almost anyone.

    +6 Johnson +3 WIllett -1 Stenson (all 14)

Pars all round for Dustin Johnson, Danny Willett and Henrik Stenson on the 14th.

But it is nowhere near enough for DJ with just four holes left.

  6. Golden oldiespublished at 22:35

Spieth nails a beauty of a birdie at the par-three 16th, gets to +1. His game has been all over the place today but he's going to post something half-decent. But he's pulled his drive at the 17th... Bubba's hooked his right... Garcia has sliced his right... Stricker, 49, chips in at 18, finishes with a 69. Rose getting something going, another birdie at 15, back to level. Rich Beem! A round of 69 for the 2002 champion, 45, after a great up and down at the last.

    +6 Johnson (13)

Dustin Johnson, who is in 145th place, finds the green with his second shot, but it lands 29ft from the pin. A very unlikely birdie chance.

The wind is getting up, there are spots of rain about.

  8. Garcia grindingpublished at 22:28

Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark, who finished top 10 at The Open, is in with a level-par 70. Kaymer's birdie attempt at seven comes up just short, he stays four under. Garcia is still grinding out there, bogeys at 12 and 15 but he's safely on in one at 16. Russell Henley is in with a 68, which is pretty handy in these breezy afternoon conditions.

  10. Beem rolls back the yearspublished at 22:22

Great saver by Spieth at 15 after an iffy first putt, he's really struggling to stay on the tracks. Kaymer with a fine approach at the seventh, his 16th, the German remains one off the lead. Not a good day for James Morrison of England, he's +9 through 16 and propping up the field. Rich Beem, champion in 2002, is one under after a birdie at eight, one to play.

    +3 Willett (13)

Danny Willett misses another par putt, looks like he misread the line. Another bogey for the Englishman.

Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson both leave the 13th with par.

  12. Beef in touchpublished at 22:17

Big-hitting American Gary Woodland eagles 18 to finish with a 73. Fine birdie putt at 14, the Englishman gets to +2. Beef nails his birdie putt at the last for a level-par 70. Bit of rain about at Baltusrol...

Dustin Johnson cracks his drive 322 yards, one element of his game that he has not struggled with today.

His second lands at the back of the green, 18ft from the hole.

    +2 Willet (12)

Danny Willett is in the rough, he just missed a small brook with his tee shot and his second finds a bunker to the right of the green.

He is out safely but has some way to go to make par.

  15. Postpublished at 22:04

The story of the tournament so far is that if you miss the fairway, you're in trouble, even more so than normal. "We love you Beef!" is the cry as Johnston makes his way to the 18th tee, having parred 17 to stay one over. It's not quite Beatles hysteria, but it might be Level 42, circa 1986. Kaymer for birdie at six and a share of the lead... comes up short. Bit of weather coming in...

    -1 Stenson (12), +2 Willett (12) +6 Johnson (12)

Stenson, DJ and Willett are on the par three 12th.

It's 218 yards and they all land on the green.

Stenson has the pick of the tee shots, a nine foot putt for birdie and it's good. The Open champion is back in the red.

Johnson needs something to happen. His birdie attempt looks good but curves away from the hole, he settles for par. The world number two is running out of holes.

    Willett also leaves with par.

  18. Postpublished at 22:00

Kaymer with his second at the par-four sixth, safely on. The German would have been a decent bet at start of play, he's been playing well lately. Spieth's birdie putt at 14 skips over the cellophane bridge, he stays two over. Nothing working at the moment, not even on the short stuff.
