    Finau +6 (11)

Tony Finau is not having the best of rounds on six-over.

Coming up on the back nine for the American is the 649 yard par five 17th.

That should be no problem as he revealed today, external that he once drove the ball over 500 yards.

It was on a par five at a links-style course in Utah. He drove the green.

    Ridiculous.

  2. Beef sizzlespublished at 20:53

Justin Rose with his second at eight, he absolutely monstered his drive. The Englishman is one over but has a short birdie putt. Deary me, he misses it. Beef makes a long birdie putt at 13 to get back to one over par. Great recovery from Kaymer at the second, his 11th, after over-cooking his approach.

    Oh dear.

Shocking start for Dustin Johnson who misses a five footer for par.

A third bogey in three holes for the US Open champion.

Danny Willett also bogeys to move back to evens for the round while Henrik Stenson nails his par putt.

  4. Kaymer callingpublished at 20:46

Germany's former champion Martin Kaymer has birdied the first, his 10th, and is lurking with intent on four under. Bubba with an eight-footer for par on nine... misses, he's two over. Spieth knocks in his par saver, he stays two over.

That is not what Dustin Johnson wanted.

After that beautiful tee shot, his second is short, nestling in the rough in front of the green, 68ft to the hole.

The world number two is finding it hard going at the moment.

  6. Kaymer birdies againpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Kaymer -4 (10*)

Another loose iron from Jordan Spieth on the 200-yard par-three ninth sees his ball bounce into a greenside bunker. It will all depend on the lie because he hasn't got much green to work with.

Martin Kaymer gets to four under with a birdie on the first, his 10th hole. A solid opening by the German.

  7. Spieth pars, Rose dropspublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Spieth +2 (8), Rose +1 (7)

Jordan Spieth's bunker shot on eight finds the front of the green and he's got a dozen feet for birdie but he doesn't hit his putt and it pulls up a foot short. Tap-in par to stay two over.

England's Justin Rose is dropping on the seventh. It could be a double drop though because his lengthy par putt drifts several feet wide of the cup. Great putt JR. Just the one shot gone and he one over.

Andrew Johnston is giving another shot back on the 12th. A tough bunker shot from a downslope leaves him six feet for par which he can't sink.

    -1 Willett, Stenson (6) +4 Johnson (6)

Long par four for the trio of champions now.

The seventh hole is 501 yards long with a slight dog-leg to the right.

Dustin Johnson starts with a 306 yard drive slap bang right in the middle of the fairway, just what the doctor ordered.

Niall Davey: I feel like the Brits did a better job whilst shouting "BEEF!!!" compared to the Americans. It's still very refreshing nonetheless.

It's certainly better than 'GET IN THE HOLE!!!'

Danny Willett moves into the red with a birdie on the sixth, from 31 feet.

And Henrik Stenson follows his lead with a 19ft putt for birdie.

Dustin Johnson's chips his third, it doesn't look like it has enough on it  and leaves him with a seven foot putt which he misses. Another bogey for DJ.

  12. He drives to the left, he drives to the right...published at 20:28 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

Jordan Spieth went way right with his tee shot on the seventh. On the eighth, he pulls it 20 yards left. He is one angry young man, taking a wild swish at fresh air with his driver, while his ball disappears into a bunker.

  13. Double drop for Spiethpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Spieth +2 (7)

Germany's Martin Kaymer smashes his second on the par-five 18th onto the green and it scuttles up past the hole but works its way back towards the pin and the 2010 champion has a 10-footer for eagle. He misses but that's three under through his first nine.

Jordan Spieth's putting woes continue on the seventh with a three putt for a double bogey to drop to two over.

Andrew Johnston taps in for birdie on 11 to get back to one over.

  14. Postpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    +3 Johnson (5), E Stenson (5)

Dustin Johnson on the sixth, desperate to find some rhythm.

His first shot finds the rough, his second is 236 yards from the hole, but he fires over the green.

No such problems for Henrik Stenson who finds the green with his second to leave an 18ft birdie attempt.

  15. Birdie look for Beefpublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

Andrew Johnston from the first cut of fairway rough on the 11th and he chops that out to a couple of feet. Big birdie chance for Beef.

Over on seven Bubba Watson with an eight iron, but he's not troubling the flag which is billowing in the freshening breeze.

Back on six and Justin Rose is chipping up and out of a greenside bunker to six feet but that will be for par.

  16. Spieth hacks out of a treepublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

Jordan Spieth is searching for his ball under a big prickly pine tree. He gets a wedge out of his bag and is discussing with a rules official what his options are. Basically, you can crawl under the branches but don't move any. He's moving the spectators around and trying to hit the ball where they have trampled the grass down.

"I've hit that two feet too far," he moans as the ball scuttles out about 10 yards. "It's alright Jordan," yells a fan. But we all know it's not.

Shot number three is a smash out of the thick stuff and his ball trickles up onto the front edge of the green. A 50-foot par putt coming up.

    +3 Johnson, E Willett, Stenson (all 5)

Dustin Johnson struggling early on in his round as the US Open champion goes to three-over after three putting the fifth.

Danny Willett and Henrik Stenson fairing better as they leave with par.

  19. Spieth spraying it like Sevepublished at 20:06

A lot of putts coming up well short, which is odd given the frazzling conditions. That said, I'm not sure if they've watered all the greens out there. Spieth is playing like Seve at the moment, wild as the wind off the tee and having to scramble for everything. He's sliced his drive at seven. Australia's John Senden is tied for fourth on three under with seven holes left.

  20. 'I need a good round tomorrow'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    McIlroy +4 (18)

Rory McIlroy said: "I think first and foremost, I have to play a good round to get into the weekend tomorrow. I think that's the first objective, and then go from there.

"Look, it's one round of golf. I obviously want to play well, but I was trying my hardest out there to make birdies, and I was giving myself chances in the last few holes, and didn't quite convert them."So I know my game is there, to keep giving myself chances. Just hopefully I'm not shutout tomorrow. I can't remember the last time I remember without a birdie. I'll stay as patient as I can and as hard as I can and hopefully turn it around."
