A great recovery shot by Jason Day from the rough among the crowds to get back on the fairway. The crowd are on top of the defending champion and they celebrate wildly after that shot, one kid is desperate for a high five and finall gets one from the Australian.

Rory McIlroy with the three wood, he's going for it but his shot lands in the bunker in front of the green.

Remember this is a 649 yard par five.

Phil Mickelson takes a more conservative approach and give himself a 94 yard wedge shot to the green.

  2. On a knife edgepublished at 23:49

The cut is very unstable at the moment, fluctuating between +1 and +2. If Mickelson can make a birdie at 17 or 18, we think it will go back to +1 - it's currently +2. Birdie at 17 for Jamie Donaldson, he moves to -4 and five off the lead.

Nicola!:With the way he hits the ball off the tee it's such a shame Rory can't find any putting form.

  4. Streb -8published at 23:44

Adam Scott of Australia has been quiet this week but he's just picked up birdies at 14 and 15 to get to -2. Another birdie at six for Robert Streb, he's now eight under and outright second.

Wild tee shot by Jason Day on the 17th. He is leaning back in his swing and hooks the ball left, crashing into the blue boarding.

Better from Rory McIlroy, over 325 yards, but he needs at least a birdie here.

Phil Mickelson takes the easy route, 300 yards down the fairway.

  6. McIlroy cut further adriftpublished at 23:38 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    -7 Day +2 Mickelson +3 McIlroy (all 16)

Shock. Jason Day has not got a birdie (just a par).

Not a shock. Rory McIlroy misses a birdie.

He really should have got that, it was just a few feet but his alignment looked all wrong. It's a par but at three over with  two to play, his tournament is slipping away.

Phil Mickelson gets a bogey. That could really hurt his chances of making the cut, which is currently plus one.

  7. Walker clubhouse leader on -9published at 23:33

Padraig, champion in 2008, looks like he's made the cut with a birdie at 18. That cut at +1 at the moment. Walker jabs his par putt wide at 18, finishes with a 66 and leads in the clubhouse on nine under. Had he made that, he would have equalled the record for lowest first 36-hole score at a major.

    Par three 16th now.

Rory McIlroy desperately needs birdies, probably two in his last three to make the cut.

And his quest starts well, landing his tee shot five feet from the pin.

Phil Mickelson finds the bunker, while Jason Day is on the far side of the green.

  9. Streb -7published at 23:28

Streb in with a birdie at six, he ties for second on seven under. Walker with a 60-footer for birdie at 18... comes up about five feet short...

Matsuyama birdied the last for a 67, he's four under and six off the lead. The highest-placed Brit at the moment is Welshman Jamie Donaldson, who is three under through 15. Casey is -2, Johnston, Westwood and Fisher are -1. I don't think we'll see a British winner this year.

  12. Birdie number eight for Daypublished at 23:24 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    -7 Day (15)

Jason Day for birdie, bit of left to right, but no problems there. His eighth birdie.

The Australian is now in second place on seven under with two of the easiest holes, the long par fives to come.

  13. Fowler -4 (68)published at 23:21

Fowler finishes with birdie-eagle, is in with a round of 68 for four under overall. Here's Walker with his third into 18 and he's safely on. Should be a par, but should have been better.

Jason Day can do no wrong.

His second shot on the 15th leaves him with another birdie chance.

Rory McIlroy must wish some of his playing partner's magic would rub off on him. A terrible second shot from just 100 yard rolls back down the green and leaves him with a 30ft putt.

  15. Splash!published at 23:18

Grillo in with a 67 for the clubhouse lead on -7. Walker leads by three, but I'm hearing he's found the drink off the tee at 18...

Great saver from Streb at four, he stays six under. Fowler birdied 17 to get to -2 and he's just played a magnificent approach at 18 for an eagle chance. Silence greets Walker's tee shot on 18, I'll let you know...

    +2 Mickelson +3 McIlroy

Phil Mickelson drops back to two over with a bogey on the 14th while Rory McIlroy just can't get his putting together.

Another missed birdie opportunity and another par for the two-time champ.

    -6 Day (14)

Wow. The defending champion has another birdie.

A 37ft foot downhill putt and it rolls straight in.

    Seven holes, six birdies.

  19. Grillo stumblespublished at 23:07

Paul Casey has taken his round by the scruff of the neck - out in 36 but he's made four birdies between 11 and 15 and is suddenly two under. Grillo misses with his long par putt at eight after a poor recovery, he drops to -7 and three off the lead of Walker.
