    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia 1UP (3)

You know what, apart from Spieth and Reed, this first hour or so has not been the best standard. Kaymer tries to clear Garcia's mess at the back of the par-three fourth. Line OK, but pace is quicker than a hiccup and it's through the green to the fringe at the other side. Europe look set to give away their advantage.

    2UP - Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (5)

Oh dear Henrik Stenson. That's the definition of a pull my friend and you'll be needing  to pass Justin Rose a bucket and spade for his next one.

Jordan Spieth will look to compound the damage. His divot travels about 30 yards, his ball is good, 12ft for birdie and the hole.

Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan escape on the fifth as Rickie Fowler's 15 footer for the win lips out. Europe stay one up in that one.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan - 1UP (4)

"FORE LEFT", we hear on the fifth tee.

Music to the ears of Europeans. Rickie Fowler visibly winces as his ball clears trees and lands in a heap of trouble.

Phil Mickelson is better than Dynamo as a magician if you ask me. He takes a wedge out of his bag, parts the crowds, uses his body language to tell everyone it's on and then lofts one from the trees, over a small tree, over the pin and to within 12ft. Stunning.

Oh how this game swings. Rory McIlroy gets too much on his chip to the same green and his ball is off the putting surface. Advantage America.

    2UP D Johnson/Kuchar v Westwood/Pieters (2)

You know how I said we might fear for Westwood and Pieters? Westy has just pushed his tee shot on the third way right, past the rope and on to a path. On the fourth, the par three, Sergio Garcia has missed the green.

It's going to take Thomas Pieters a few holes to settle down, he pulled his tee shot on the second but got away with it.

    United States v Europe

There is a lot of hype and build up to a Ryder Cup, players need to unwind, take their mind off the chaos.

But what about having your mind played with a little? That's been the case this week when magician Dynamo popped in to entertain Darren Clarke's troops.

Europe’s Henrik Stenson said: "It's just impressive to see someone being that good at what they do but at the same time it's annoying that you can't figure out how he does it. It's a bittersweet combo really."

    2UP D Johnson/Kuchar v Westwood/Pieters (2)

Oh, Lee Westwood. Three, maybe four feet for par and a half. Round the back and out the other side, a horrible miss and a real gift for the US. Europe two down after two and you already fear for Westwood and Pieters.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan 1UP (4)

A European flag flutters in the background as Rory McIlroy converts from five feet to give his pairing the lead on the fourth. Ruthless stuff, pouncing on Phil Mickelson's miss from eight feet.

You see Phil, you may have won over $80m in your time but no one's going to let you off the hook here old boy.

    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia (1up)

Three matches in and no pair have attacked the green on the par-five green in two. It is 633 yards, mind. The US are on in three, but Kaymer has gone through the back to leave Garcia some work to do.

    2UP - Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson

A puff of the lips from Justin Rose. The normally chipper Englishman looks a bit wound up with the early exchanges here. His putt on five is again nicely weighted but fractionally left of the cup. Again this pairing cannot capitalise when their rivals get a little sloppy. Patrick Reed's chip from beside the green hauled the US back into that hole. That's back-to-back holes where scrambling has maintained their healthy advantage.

    A/S - McIlroy/Sullivan v Mickelson/Fowler

    Hole: 4

    Yards: 210

    Par: 3

Fuzzy Zoeller and John Inman each aced the hole in the 1991 US Open. A bunker-surrounded green has a back shelf nearly impossible to hold and the front has a flat area. Between is a slope that can set up bogeys even if you find the green.

Both Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson push their ball right, bunkers for everyone. The balls come to rest about two feet apart in the sand.

    2UP - Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson

Henrik Stenson has the ball fractionally below his feet but the worry is it sits in the fringe between fairway and rough. He needs to get this out clean. A good strike, "come on baby" one fan says. The ball sits on the putting surface, some 30ft from the pin.

Jordan Spieth for the US, closer in and from the middle of the fairway. "Ah Jees", says the 23-year-old as the ball fizzes off his club face. He knows there's too much on this and the ball ends in a little mischief off the back edge of the green.

    A/S - Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan

Corking approaches on the third from Rickie Fowler and Andy Sullivan. Both send wedges close with spin, both setup big birdie chances. It will be Phil Mickelson to putt first. His ball is sent with pace to the hole and never looks in doubt. Rory McIlroy should make his, he's Rory McIlroy after all, yep, job done.

    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia (1up)

The first blue on the board. After the US missed the green, a par is enough for Kaymer and Garcia to put Europe ahead for the first time in this Ryder Cup.

    D Johnson/Kuchar (1up) v Westwood/Pieters

A European bogey on the first gives the US the early lead. Thomas Pieters, from about 15 feet, sends it agonisingly close on the left of the hole.

It's been halved as a golfing year one may argue. Two majors for Europe thanks to Danny Willett and Henrik Stenson, two for USA courtesy of Jimmy Walker and Dustin Johnson.

But what impact does historic individual success have when the team becomes the focus?

"This week, Danny doesn't have the green jacket in the team room, Rory (McIlroy) doesn't have the FedEx Cup in the team room," says Olympic champion Justin Rose. "I think this is about the Ryder Cup and that little gold trophy, and that's enough for us all this week.

"It's nice to have belief in your team-mates that they can stand up to pressure and they can deliver on the big stage and I think that's what the gold medal and the green jacket and the FedEx Cup and Henrik's Claret Jug, that's what they represent."
