    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia

Kaymer with the honour. Hatless - no sponsors, so odd to see golfers bare-headed. A swoosh, then ooohs from the crowd. Peer through the mist. If I'm honest. we're guessing on that one. Zach Johnson has found the posh bit. Kaymer might have gone right, but we won't know until we have a walk. It's like Wuthering Heights out there.

Match three. All sorts of noise on the tee - sounds a bit like a frat party. Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer about to tee it up with Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker. Another awkward snap of all four men - probably a bit too much navy on show for my liking.

    A/S Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan

Some nerves on the first green as Rickie Fowler leaves a long putt three feet short. Andy Sullivan from similar range... she breaks nicely but misses, that's three feet left for Rory McIlroy.

First it's Phil Mickelson to tidy up...in. McIlroy must drain it to share the hole...he does. They bounce off to the second tee box, no damage done either way.

  6. 'Europe calm and together'published at 14:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States v Europe

Another of Europe's vice captains, Thomas Bjorn, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It is brilliant, it is great.

"We know it (the crowd) is going to be mostly against us but I don't think I have seen a team this calm and this together, and we have been together in the past. They now have to go out on the golf course and do it.

"Rory (McIlroy) will lead Andy Sullivan around the course and I think that was why Darren Clarke was so keen to put him out there."

    1UP Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson

Jordan Spieth has a putt to win the second hole moments after Henrik Stenson leaves his effort short. He'll make this, you just know he will, it's what he does... in she goes.

It was Spieth range, one of those he just drops in dead weight from 10ft. The first hole won at the 2016 Ryder Cup is an American one. Spieth raises the putter and the roar is colossal.

    Spieth/Reed A/S Rose/Stenson

Jordan Spieth found 300 yards off the tee on two, taking 18 yards out of Henrik Stenson's effort. It pays off as Patrick Reed finds the green and is closer to the pin than the ball of Justin Rose.

Up go the roars as Reed's ball lands. Any inch advantage is worth cheering, it's the Ryder Cup after all.

    Fowler/Mickelson v McIlroy/Sullivan

Andy Sullivan takes the honour, not Rory McIlroy.

We think that's a strategic decision in that it will allow McIlroy to use his power on the tee on certain holes later in the round.

Crackerjack strike from Sullivan and Rickie Fowler follows him up the fairway. So far we've seen nothing but pure strikes from the tee.

    Spieh/Reed v Rose/Stenson

As #TeamEurope trends on Twitter, Henrik Stenson lampoons a ball down the 429-yard par-four second. A big dogleg this one and he finds prime position.

Rory McIlroy is dancing, saluting the crowds and embracing the party atmosphere on the opening tee. He stands alongside Andy Sullivan and they lock arms with Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson on the tee box in a pose for photos. Mickelson towers over them, Andy Sullivan stands barely taller than Lefty's belt.

There's a nervous look about Mickelson.

Patrick Reed taking a Geordie approach to clothing this morning: shirt-sleeves when all others are in woolly hats and jumpers. The sort of sartorial gesture that speaks of bravery, guts and insouciance. And also a certain amount of natural insulation.

    Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson

Now then, what are you made of? We've all hit good shots into greens but how are the knees holding up gents?

Patrick Reed, don't wobble now, stand firm... he sends his putt, it breaks... wide.

Europe - Justin Rose - will put to win the first hole of the Ryder Cup. It's downhill slightly, it'll break left to right. He sends it but the break isn't as much as he expects. It's all square through one.

    Spieh/Reed v Rose/Stenson

Now I must admit, I like Jordan Spieth. He seems to have the attitude of a steady forty-something despite being just 23.

He looks to be loving this environment, no sign of nerves and his approach at the first is pin-point. Right at the pin, some 12ft left. Pressure on Henrik Stenson then. His angle in isn't as nice, he has to go over a bunker but it's food and drink for the Open champion. He too leaves a putt of 12-15ft.

I think right now it is 1-0 to the USA crowd. The group of Vikings have been here since 6am working on their songs, they are the big NFL team and they have their hockey jerseys on.

    Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson

Justin Rose, he pauses over the ball, with the sweetest of pings he sends it down the right of the fairway. That's what you dream of the night before. A few nerves just disappeared in his gut.

Over to Patrick Reed. Can he send a message? Nice job. Left side of the fairway. We are off and running ladies, gents, boys and girls.

Fairway bunkers pinch the landing area. Holding the green will be tough from the rough, wind direction and speed deciding how best to handle a bunker-flanked tiered green.

The noise is incredible... "USA, USA, USA."

Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson all go with jumpers, Patrick Reeds is in a red polo shirt. He seemingly doesn't need the extra layers.

All four are introduced. Now for the easy part. Swing away guys. Keep it straight, it's not like you're under pressure.
