  2. Putting in the darkpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States v Europe

Looking at those foursomes this morning, I fancy the Rose/Stenson and McIlroy/Sullivan to put blue on the board but Walker/Johnson and Johnson/Kuchar to level it up. What do you think?

Justin Rose is out sharpening his putting right now. In the dark may I add. That's commitment.

  3. The formatpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    USA v Europe

New to the Ryder Cup? Not sure of your fourballs from your foursomes?

This morning's foursomes has each pair playing one ball between them, taking alternate strokes.

This afternoon's fourballs -as the name would suggest - means each player has his own ball, with the best score taken.

You'll notice that only eight men from each team are in action - four are on the sidelines, as chosen by the captain.

Same drill tomorrow, with the formats reversed, then on Sunday all 12 men will take part in the singles.

  4. Shoulder to shoulderpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States v Europe

Right, so the first thing I need to know is are you pumped? Let me know on #bbcrydercup. I am, my boss to my left is too. There's even a woman carrying her Friday big shop outside our office window who looks like she's off home to focus on swing speeds while chanting in her living room.

We will get to what the difference is between fourballs and foursomes shortly. This is who gets us underway though.

Stay in touch, tweet us, let's get through these three days as one. "Shoulder to shoulder," as Europe captain Darren Clarke would say.

We have waited two years for this. Europe, America, it's on.

Hammer into one another with your putters, wedges and drivers at full throttle. We want carnage.

    Welcome to the Ryder Cup

    There will be heroes.

They will joyously sip champagne on Sunday evening while others become the collective image of golfing failure.

  8. Abandon your plans...published at 12:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Welcome to the Ryder Cup

There have been moments of wonderful sportsmanship, where the good shines through...

And then there's the brilliance, the magic. The dazzling soft hands under pressure, the nerves of steel when a nation or continent can barely watch. Character is called on and of course, character can be broken down.

Rookies can become kings. The established big names can melt down. Either way you can't stop watching. It's a soap opera, played out live with a soundtrack of raucous noise from the galleries.

Abandon all you are doing. Welcome to the Ryder Cup.
