Huge galleries following the McIlroy v Reed contest. Marshals around greens conducting each of the stands and banks in turn - first one section yells, "U!" then the next "S!" and then - well, you can probably guess. IT technicians: it's not "B".

    Rose v Rose 1UP (1)

Rose has two putts to win the first and he only needs one of them, Europe get some more blue on the board...

  3. 'Rafa has done so well'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Walker v Cabrera-Bello

    Carin Koch
Last year's European Solheim Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live

It will be interesting to see how Rafa does today. He has done so well in his previous matches but it as a little different on Sunday, being there on your own in the Ryder Cup.

    Reed v McIlroy 1UP (3)

The fourth presents players with the first par three of their round, a chance to get their short irons out and loft one in there at the bullseye. Today the pin is tucked behind the front bunkers. Rory McIlroy takes them out of the equation, staying left and finding the green, something Patrick Reed can't do.

    Reed v McIlroy 1UP (3)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Rory deserves the birdie. He looks very calm. Just a slight fist pump, nothing too demonstrative. He is under control.

    Fowler v Rose

Fowler's second at the first and he's flown the green. Mud ball? Adrenaline? Who knows. Rose, meanwhile, is safely on in two...

  8. Europe up - Rory firespublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Reed v McIlroy 1UP (3)

Rory McIlroy judges the right-to-left break on his short putt nicely, she drops in the hole without any complaints and that's the lead. Little emotion on show. Come on Superman, let's see a bit of that roar from yesterday.

    1UP Holmes v Pieters (1)

JB Holmes shows a delicate touch from the fringe on one and rolls up, Thomas Pieters concedes the hole. A bad start for the Belgian. Holmes walks away, face scrunched, fist clenched. He's feeling it and happy. For now.

Keith Ames: Greatest crowd atmosphere? Live Aid, Wembley, 1985. Still the best.

Richard Boden: Went to Ryder Cup at Walton Heath back in 1982 with 2 American friends- bored came home & played 18 holes - things have changed.

    A/S Reed v McIlroy (2)

The Rory McIlroy power shines through on three as after two shots each on this par five he has taken a lot of yardage out of Patrick Reed. The American has 137 yards to go, Rory is way down in double digits.

Reed first, solid, as he has been so far, but unspectacular. McIlroy gives his ball less air, a bump and run. It runs, it's on line, it's on line.... lips out. Almost an eagle. He will be a lot closer for the putts.

    1UP Spieth v Stenson (2)

Spieth putting from the front of the second green and he very nearly holes it, although he's got a tricky one coming back. Stenson for the hole from about 12 feet... didn't look in, then looked in, then didn't go in. Hole halved. I should have added, Spieth popped that knee-knocker in.

Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

I have enjoyed the first few matches passing us by. Where else would you want to be as a professional golfer, or any golfer for that matter, than where we are now?

    Fowler v Rose

Justin Rose has never lost a singles match and Rickie Fowler has never won one. It's the former to hit first and he flies one safely down there, the latter follows him down there.

  15. That's ugly!published at 17:38 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Holmes v Pieters

On the first, JB Holmes and Thomas Pieters are only capable of sighters, neither finding the putting surface. Short game will decide it. Holmes perhaps the most unlikely, his ball coming to rest in the fringe.

Pieters will play first. His golf clubs look almost too small for his lengthy frame. Around 30ft left from the rough and my oh my that's ugly. A dire chip, he's further away than when he started as his ball fizzes past the pin. Holmes now has a decision to make, he's got a great chance to open his account here.

    1UP Spieth v Stenson (1)

Fowler makes a grand entrance on the first tee, pulling some weird college-based dance with vice-captain Bubba Watson. Back at the second, Spieth comes up short with his approach, before Stenson pops his safely on.

  18. Security upped for McIlroypublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Tom Fordyce

Significantly more security for McIlroy's match today - two cops in shades and hip holsters, flanking the European talisman as he walks through the yelling corridor of spectators between each green and tee.

  19. MJ in again...published at 17:35 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

Michael Jordan is in the house again. I think he's been in on all three days. Apparently he absolutely loves this game and often plays 36 holes in a day. The athlete's mindset I guess, always striving for perfection.
