Those of you who joined us late yesterday will know of the drama. Europe should be within two points but a botched Lee Westwood putt has left them three down.

Remember, they need 14 to retain the trophy, the US need 14½ to win it back. Such is the deficit, Europe captain Darren Clarke has put his big hitters out early doors. The trouble is, Davis Love III knew he would and the American front end looks strong too.

Patrick Reed against Rory McIlroy looks mouthwatering. Jordan Spieth struggled on Saturday but is always a formidable force and Henrik Stenson will need to come up trumps. Europe's Thomas Pieters has been stunning, he should take care of JB Holmes.

Europe have it all to do, make no mistake. Missed putts at key times, coupled with some brilliantly gutsy American play, it's reached a point where unless the momentum changes rapidly, the Ryder Cup will spend the next two years on US soil.

How do you find the answers? Faced with a crowd baying for blood, faced with your own brain telling you 'this is a struggle'. The answers are in there somewhere. Find them now Europe, find them now.

  3. A man in your corner...published at 16:22 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

American captain Davis Love III was the man in charge as Europe got up off the canvas to win in 2012. What must he have been thinking? Was he pondering the face of Seve Ballesteros - a legend who had passed months earlier?  Was it Seve making those putts drop?

Love is back at the helm. At some point as he rested up in bed last night, recollections of Medinah will have entered his head. It can't happen again can it? This time he has the late Arnold Palmer sat in his corner perhaps. Is the man known as 'The King' controlling the Hazeltine gusts to ensure it's an American Sunday?

    Ryder Cup Sunday

    The 30th September 2012.

As the sun comes up in Illinois, Europe trail 10-6 on the final day of the Ryder Cup.

We saw a lot of this in the hours that followed. Contorted faces, emotion spilling onto greens, tears, Seve Ballesteros looking down from upstairs with a smile...

And just look what can happen when life starts rolling in your favour. You're only beaten when you say you're beaten. Until that point, you're merely seeing how much you can take.
